Hi The storms for the most part are past, at least until the next round of rain on Monday and Tuesday. Those rain events appear to be much lighter and shorter in duration than the system that just blew through Rossmoor. Minimal Damage Rossmoor's parks and trees received only minimal damage from this storm. A number of large branches, like the one pictured here fell at both parks. The Pepper tree next to tennis court 3 in Rossmoor Park took out the fence at mid-court. Actual damage appears to be minimal and the RCSD had a crew out on Sunday morning to remove the branch from the court area. And the court was put
to almost immediate use for a tennis match. Three Cheers for the RCSD Parks Team!! More photos and the "after" of the court on our site. Rainy Season Checklist for Your Yard During our drought, we almost felt over-bearing, continually reminding people how not to use too much of our diminishing water resources. Now that we are under water from a week of rain, here's some great ideas to help with other aspects of water -
protecting our waterways, your water bills, and your plants. It is easy to overlook that we are one with our environment - and there is so much we can do to help. Here's a checklist of things we can do to keep our yards and our waterways healthy. Did you see this?

The
City of Los Alamitos is hosting the OC Health Care Agency for what should be an incredibly helpful workshop. The Prescription for Prevention Workshop, which will be held Wednesday, March 15th from 11:00-Noon in the Los Alamitos Community Center (10911 Oak Street), will discuss prescription medication management. This is an especially important topic for seniors as prescriptions for medications can change frequently. Keeping track of current ones, changing out and disposing of
the previous ones, and safely securing all from family members (and dementia-inflicted loved ones) and pets can be daunting. More info here
Congress Names The Youth Center Non-Profit of the
Month |
The Youth Center announced that it has been named a Nonprofit of the Month by the United States Congress House of Representatives. This is an extreme honor for the
71-year-old organization that provides programs for kids and their families including music education, after-school care, tutoring, summer programs, therapy for kids, programs for teens, and scholarships for families in need in our local community. “We are honored to be named a Nonprofit of the Month,” says Lina Lumme, Executive Director and
CEO. “We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including brand new programs like View U, Girls in STEM, and Workshops for Success,” she concluded. The Nonprofit of the Month Award was given in honor of The Youth Center’s commitment to the youth and equipping them with the tools for future success. “Thank you for your service and dedication to our community,” said Michelle Steel, a Member of the 118th Congress. “Congratulations on this achievement!” More on this wonderful
