Hi, After a terrific weekend here in Rossmoor, it looks like we will be in the mid-80s through next weekend. Sunny days and
warmer nights will make outdoor fun even more so. Make sure to drink enough water and protect yourself from the sun's warm rays. Just another great week. Enjoy it! Backpacks and School Supply Donation Drive In partnership with the Los Alamitos Police Department, the Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department will be hosting a donation drive! This donation drive is specifically for backpacks and school supplies (i.e., backpacks, folders/binders, writing/coloring utensils, paper, etc.) that will be distributed to local non-profits to benefit local school children in need. Drive-up drop off will be available at the Los Alamitos Community Center (10911 Oak Street, Los Alamitos) from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 7/11. A Los Alamitos Police Department Cruiser will be parked out front waiting to be filled with donations. Final CSD Budget Now Available To Public
|
|
The July 11th CSD Board meeting is your final chance to ask questions or make suggestions about how our money is spent and managed for providing
parks and facilities services in Rossmoor. Considering every household contributes on average $500 per year towards their budget -- we think it's a big deal. To provide a more compete picture of the budget as it compares with past budgets, we created a page
of information and links. Also a reminder: Our CSD voted to discontinue the use of ZOOM for interactive participation. As always, their meeting is available for viewing on YouTube, but if
you want to participate, plan on going to the Rush Park Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11th.

Hamlet - Shakespeare at Rush Park Saturday 7/15
|
|
Here's a small step into the world of William Shakespeare... To be or not to be..... is about all many people know about Shakespeare (and
Hamlet).
We'll try to fill in more details - consider it a really novice version or "director's cut" extra -- like details about his Globe theater, and how it continues to
influence theater today.
Feel free to start talking in the comments below -- many of ya know more than we do (the angst and religious symbolisms, the use of iambic pentameter to drive the
action.....huh?) - and yes, we'll tie the characters together with the times, with you. To be or not to be..... is about all many people know about Shakespeare (and Hamlet).

The Twelfth Night - Shakespeare at Rush Park Sunday 7/16
|
|
This is so
fun. Shakespeare is the master of complicated relationships, twists and turns. Here is the gist of this romantic comedy (courtesy of Folger Shakespeare Library on Capitol Hill): Named for the twelfth night after Christmas, the
end of the Christmas season, Twelfth Night plays with love and power. The Countess Olivia, a woman with her own household, attracts Duke (or Count) Orsino. Two other would-be suitors are her pretentious steward, Malvolio, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek. Onto this scene arrive the twins Viola and
Sebastian; caught in a shipwreck, each thinks the other has drowned. Viola disguises herself as a male page and enters Orsino’s service. Orsino sends her as his envoy to Olivia—only to have Olivia fall in love with the messenger. The play complicates, then wonderfully untangles, these relationships. If you are a person who is already hooked, google
the Folger Shakespeare Library & Twelfth Night, where they expand the synopsis, and deep-dive the entire play.
