Keep Rossmoor Safe - Slow your roll to 25 MPH
Hey,
Today is showing to be the peak temperature of this October heatwave we are in the midst of. We should top out in the low 90s. The good news is that our temps will drift back down into the
low 80s and upper 70s for the weekend and most of next week. Enjoy the warmth and get out to our Rossmoor Certified Farmers Market this afternoon. It will be fun.
Speaking of fun, the next Kids Night Out from our good friends at The Youth Center is coming up on Friday October 20th. The parent/grand parent get away night starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m.
and the kids will have an absolute blast. All the details are here. Please register before they fill up - the Halloween nights are always very popular.
OCFA Fire Station Open Houses
This Saturday, October 14, 2023, our very own OC Fire Authority celebrates the end of Fire Prevention Week with open houses at 28 of the 78 fires houses that protect more than 2 million residents here in Orange County.
At the open houses, residents will learn how the fire stations operate, meet-and-greet with local firefighters and much
more.
Rossmoor residents can join in on this fun and educational OCFA event at the two stations that cover most of the Rossmoor calls for service each month - and there are hundreds of them!:
Station 2 — 3642 Green Avenue, Los
Alamitos.
Station 48 — 3131 North Gate Road, Seal Beach.
The OCFA Open Houses take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th.
Where Does It Go?
We don't know about you, but as simple as some like it to sound, it's not easy. What EXACTLY goes where? The Our Rossmoor Team reached out to OC Waste and Recycling and found this nifty site to help guide our disposables into the right bins, buckets, trucks, or whatever.
The menu on the
left side of the page also has the same info in a downloadable document for those who like doing things with a "real book" to flip thru - download it if you must, but if you can, use it digitally to save paper. The guide also has helpful links for locally disposing of things that can't or need not be put in residential bins.
The Youth Center Executive Director Lina Lumme rarely (if ever) takes credit for the Herculean efforts. Thank you to Supervisor Do for recognizing her and reminding everybody. For us in Rossmoor it's no secret -- we marvel at her and her programs for our youth every single day. More here.
Happy Fall! With the first day of fall this past Saturday, September 23rd, we thought it would be fun (and informative) to let
you know that your fall leaves belong in the GREEN lid, organics container where they will be turned to compost. Leaves are a rich source of organic matter for your soil! Stay tuned for more What Goes Where posts!
This is a big win all around. Keeping leaves off the sidewalks and out of the gutters allows our storm channels to run freely. No ponding water...no mosquitos breeding. REMEMBER: leaves, branches, sticks & twigs go in your
green lid organic container.
E-Bike Information & Updates
Our Sheriff's Department along with the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) want to remind parents that there are a lot of great resources available to find out more about e-bikes and how to safely operate them.
The OCTA
recently published a new streamlined resource page to find out more about e-bikes. It's a great summary for all riders and drivers. It's worth goin there to watch the adventures of Goodboy Noah. Here's the link
