Hi, The weekend looks good for our Festival on Saturday. Highs should be warm in the low 80s with a slight cooling trend projected for next week. Family Festival Saturday It's back to school weekend and we are celebrating the occasion at our Our Rossmoor booth on Saturday from 2:00 until 8:00. We will have special guests in our booth from 4:00 unit 6:00 to help answer your school related questions. There have been rumors that our guests will include our very own Chris "Papa"
Forehan, but that's just the word on the street. When you stop by, there may even be some goodies for you there. Why only 4 to 6? Well at 6:00 The Emperors (SoCal's premier classic rock band) will take over the main stage and everyone at the Festival will want to enjoy the two hour concert...Including us. 😀

In Memoriam - Dave
Burgess |
Original Rossmoor Family resident, Dave Burgess has passed away. Dave understood our community. He attended Rush
Elementary, Oak Junior High School, Los Alamitos High School, and Long Beach State University, graduating with a degree in Finance. He was also a California-licensed General Contractor. Besides his Contracting business, many knew him through his service to Rossmoor, being elected to the Rossmoor Community Services District board of directors in the
2014 elections. Dave was a people’s choice candidate, particularly focused on representing fiscal accountability and public transparency in all he did. As such, he felt strongly about taking the district’s operations FOR the people TO the people, despite the risk of stirring controversies. Not surprisingly, he was the top vote-getter of four candidates, for the two open positions (beating out both new and incumbent candidates). Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Dave’s mother,
Barbara Burgess, the entire Burgess family, along with Dave’s friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

In The Coming Weeks... Monday, August 14th, marks the start of school for most of our Rossmoor campuses. The means we will have some new traffic patterns in and around all the schools, including the
middle and high schools. Just please be mindful and just everyone a little grace. We've got this Rossmoor! Of course each and every Thursday, we have the Rossmoor Certified Farmers Market at Rush Park from 4 until 7. Stop by and gather at the marketplace. Good food, great produce, and good friends. Hope to see you there! The Rotary Club of
Los Alamitos / Cypress / Seal Beach is hosting the 31st Annual Seal Beach Fishing Derby for those 15 and under on Saturday August 19th from 7:00 to noon. Free pancake breakfast provided by the Seal Beach Lions for those who register for the free event. There's also a Senior Expo hosted by the City of Los Alamitos on Wednesday, August 23rd from 10:00 to
Noon in the Los Alamitos Recreation Center. This event promises to be a lot of fun for all those 50+. More info here. Hamlet on Video And Hamlet is available to watch from our site. Thanks to John Underwood and his team, you can watch this year's performance of Hamlet from the comfort of your our desk or chair. It's worth the watch. OC Public Works - At Work Making Rossmoor Better... Another story that's not glamorous. But hard work never is. Our OC Public Works Department reads and responds to our comments and concerns when we make them. You can call their offices and speak to a person, but the very best way to let them know is by going through their web portal here. This is our OCPW fixing things, this week. A few months back, a resident took a few pictures of the standing water (bad for our storm drains and mosquito abatement efforts) in front of his home, and sent the images into
the County, with the location and a message about the issue via their portal (accessible from here: OurRossmoor.com/myoc). While we hate maneuvering around construction, we LOVE seeing our tax dollars at
work, and having our streets and services functioning the way we have come to expect them in our community. Check out the progress here
Bike Safety Tips &
Reminders |
In our continuing series about bikes and safety, we thought we would share some tips from the pros. As highlighted by the chart on the site, part of the
challenge we face today is that bikes in general, and specifically e-bike types 1 & 2 are legal for children under 16 to ride. This is a good thing for the most part; still, these riders have not had any training about the vehicle code or bike safety. While our community and schools are working to fill this gap, it remains incumbent on these riders’ parents to educate them and keep them safe. Read more here (and there's a few videos)
