[rha] Nice Weather, for now, Voting, School's Out

Hi ,

We have a nice warm up today and tomorrow with a great weekend of weather coming up, at least until Sunday afternoon. Sunday evening, Monday, and into Tuesday looks like we will be wet again with on and off showers. This does not look like it will be the next great flood, but it will be wet. Plan your activities accordingly.

Please, TURN OFF YOUR SPRINKLER SYSTEMS for at least 3 weeks or longer. The ground is plenty wet and you can help conserve our resources (and your cash, if that makes a difference to you).

And, remember that school is out next week as well. Stay safe and we will update you again this weekend.

Your Vote Counts!

The State has a primary election coming up on Tuesday March 5th and everyone should plan to vote (just mail in your ballot now while you are thinking about it). If you are not registered, there is still time. Register with the county here and be counted!

Sweepers (Plan to) Come Rain or Shine!

As Monday is a holiday, next Tuesday (Even sides) and Wednesday (Odd sides) the sweepers plan to be here in Rossmoor sweeping up the leaves and other debris on our streets. Even if it's raining, the sweepers currently plan come by according to our contractor SCA. Help keep our beaches clean, please move your vehicles. Thanks!

School is Out All Week!

Our terrific Los Al School District is off all next week. This means that the morning business around our schools will not be there and it means that here will be more students in and around the neighborhood during the day all week. Please be careful and watch for pedestrians and cyclists as you drive. Be safe Rossmoor.

And if you are looking for a break from the kids being home all day next week, The Youth Center has a wonderful and popular Presidents Day week program. This year's program is title "Ski Week Camp" - sign your child or grandchild up for a day or two, or the whole week. You get a break and they will have a blast!

New Red Light Cameras in Los Al

Three new red-light photo enforcement cameras are slated for installation in the near future.

This initiative aims to enhance the existing system at Los Alamitos Boulevard and Katella Avenue, completing traffic monitoring for all lanes and approaches.

The intersection was originally selected based on the high traffic volume, as Katella Avenue at Los Alamitos Boulevard is recognized as one of the busiest intersections in all of Orange County.

The installation is expected to be completed mid-March. During the initial 30-day monitoring period, violators will be issued a warning letter notifying them of the violation. After the 30-day period, citations will be issued to violators.

Neighborhood Watch Block Gathering?

Our Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Team always monitors what's happening here. And in a nutshell, not much. The public data put out shows that it's the usual:

Suspicious people (our community sees something and says something to law enforcement to check out) Yay us!

Burglaries: (a follow-up post usually indicates that it is a call-out for someone's alarm sounding) - precautionary alerts - another yay us!

Thefts: These are what are usually called "crimes of opportunity". Don't leave valuable things in your car, enticing someone to break in, lock your car doors, and close your garage - nothing says "check out what's in my car" more than "hey the door's open!"

Printed reports tell one story. Follow-ups on the reports make the picture clear. Our OCSD North Patrol is more than law enforcement, they are Our Rossmoor partners. Always willing to share info, the Our Rossmoor NW Team is able to share their insights, in a way that nobody is left wondering:

Update from our Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station:

"Ammunition Pier Project. You may have seen a Navy ship alongside the new pier for the first time last Thursday. We are shooting for the first actual use of the new pier sometime around Mid-March. Soon after that we will start pile driving for the last 20 piles in the project, to create the second section of the pier’s north mooring dolphin. Project completion remains on track for June."
