It's a summer tease week here in Rossmoor with a lot of sun and nice 70s
tempatures for the week. We may see a cool down for next weekend, with temps dipping into the upper 60s. Good times to be outside. Our busy weekend of events was terrific. On Friday the
community honored some amazing youth volunteers at The Youth Center's A Night Among The Stars. Co-hosted by the Los Alamitos, Cypress & Seal Beach Rotary Club, 19 area students were honored for giving back to our community in very special ways (photo below). From creating a butterfly garden (more on that coming soon) to leading STEM classes for elementary school girls, it's amazing how much was accomplished by these incredible students. Thanks to
Golden State Water for sponsoring the event and to The Youth Center for finding all these young people.
Rossmoor Community Shredding Success! On Saturday morning, we held our quarterly Rossmoor Get Shredded event at our new location, Lee School. We had more than 165 vehicles/pedestrians stop by to get their documents shredded. Yes, people did walk
over to the event with a bag or a backpack filled with documents as part of their Saturday morning walk. It was a great event and it was fun talking with so many neighbors. Our next drive-through Get Shredded event will be Saturday, July 27th from 8:00 to 12 Noon. Mark your calendars now.
Flea-Borne Typhus Detected in Rossmoor
Over the weekend a resident shared a notice from OC Vector Control in Rossmoor. Thanks OC Vector for doing a great job! This public notification is required whenever there is a suspicion of disease (it takes time to test and
confirm), so letting the immediate vicinity know, alerts everyone, so that we can help stop anything before it starts (much like preventing mosquito infestation to prevent West Nile virus, or watching for ticks, to prevent Lyme disease. The good news is that OC Vector has not seen anything of concern recently and are continually monitoring the situation. Click here for More on typhus, what to look for and how to protect your family.

Exercise is Important For Dogs |
OurRossmoor's Urban Forest is more than just pretty landscape. Get out into nature by playing in our parks and walking the sidewalks alongside our streets. It does a body good....pets and people. As their aging brains shrink, older dogs can suffer the same memory and thinking problems as many older
humans do. But dogs are just like humans in another way -- playtime and social activities can help preserve their brain function, a new study finds.

Dementia-related caregiving. This 30 minute podcast from UCIMind (and included transcript if you want a quick read, instead) provides a glimpse at practical ways to handling
dementia-care from a long-distance perspective. Dementia care is not something people plan for. The time to plan isn't really a "plan" it's an awareness. When the signs of dementia become unmistakable, increasing responsibilities can amplify family-related stress. These
quick tips, designed to "manage" and support care and caregiving when you or your siblings don't live close to your family member offer small, easy-to-digest insights. Support starts with understanding. Share this podcast with your siblings, friends, and/or relatives at-a-distance, if you don't have the energy or focus to explain how you are adapting to changes in your new roles as family caregivers.
