It looks like our weather will heat up for a few days with both Monday and Tuesday nearing 90 degrees. And then the rollercoaster continues with a dip into the upper 70s by week's end. Crazy weather. Yes, it's sweeper week here in Rossmoor. Monday the ODD sides get swept and Tuesday the even sides get their cleaning. Please move your vehicles (yes, including trailers and RVs) to the other side of the street. Thanks! Community Conversation - Insurance Secrets Our next Community Conversation is this Thursday, August 22nd from 7-8:30 p.m. when we will hear from Kathy Jeang and her Brighter Financial Future firm. Kathy will touch on some little known (dirty) secrets about insurance after you
retire and the moves you can make before you retire to help protect your legacy nest egg from future healthcare costs. And, if you have already retired, what you can still do to save money, get more benefits, while protecting yourself and your estate. Join us on Thursday, August 22nd
to find out more.
Blue Moon Pie Ride - Monday Night
Actually, Rossmoor MoonPie Rides happen every month, but for some trivia....this one is going to be a little different.
It will be one of the biggest and brightest full
moons of the year because of its close distance to the Earth.
The moon will orbit about 14,000 miles closer to Earth than average, making it a supermoon. The moon will be appear about 15 percent brighter than average. Also, it is a seasonal moon.
A seasonal blue moon is the third full moon
in an astrological season with four full moons (this one is called the Sturgeon Moon) while a monthly blue moon refers to the second of two full moons, in the same month. The next seasonal blue moon is expected in May 2027, according to NASA.
HOWEVER, the time between super blue moons can be as long as 20 years but 10 years is the average. The next time that a second full
moon and a supermoon come together though, will be in 2037.
From RHA Community Engagement Coordinator, Mary Ann Remnet: Cybercrime is getting really sophisticated and really, nobody can
be too careful. This was one that came across my channels today, specific to my air-travel passion. By law, companies must notify customers and subscribers of data breaches, but those who want to "look legit" often copy it - so as they say "go straight to the horse's mouth" if you want the straight scoop. Every person who
gets in the middle to tell you something, is well, in the middle. What's with that "horse's mouth saying, anyways?" Also, changing your password, is like re-keying your front door. It doesn't do anything to protect what was taken. So be extra vigilant about monitoring your invoices (is someone using your finances?), and other
emails about other business (once someone is inside, they have several passwords and pretend to be OTHER purveyors you work may work with.) And they aren't just stealing your bank info. Anything available online might be a piece of of someone's puzzle. And if you think that staying off the internet and social media will
prevent or protect you, don't be deceived. Sometimes the keys to your front door are sitting in someone else's computer! The best way to protect yourself and the most important thing to know, is that YOU DON'T NEED TO B AFRAID. Being knowledgeable and aware for what to look for, what looks suspicious, and how to proactively run your life prevents most of the intrusive violations. Plus trust your gut instincts. Ask questions and talk about things
with your friends, families and neighbors: it's another version of "see something, say something." And it's always good to change your passwords if you feel something is off. Just don't do it inside the email someone sent you.
On Wednesday, August 21st, the Los
Alamitos Recreation & Community Services is partnering with MemorialCare to host a free OC Senior Expo. If you are over 50, this free event has information about resources for housing, transportation, caregiving, leisure activities, and volunteering opportunities.
Calling All Neighbors! Over the past 3 years, we've built a strong foundation to connect our community. Last weekend we reached a major milestone: our RHA Community Engagement Facebook Group has grown to 1,000 members! Our CE FB group, launched 2 years ago, serves as a hub for our digital communications, and reflects the spirit of Rossmoor. We've grown deliberately, focusing on quality connections rather than just numbers, and now we're ready to expand our efforts. With strong communication channels in place, we’re preparing to roll out more opportunities for community involvement. Our goal is to work together to make Rossmoor even better, not by fixing problems but by strengthening our connections. Right now, our Community Engagement Coordinator, Mary Ann Remnet, is looking for
help coordinating our annual Grab-n-Go Lunches for the staff and teachers at our Rossmoor schools. It’s a simple but meaningful way to show appreciation to our teachers and staff. If you’re interested in volunteering, especially with scheduling and coordination, please contact us here or reply to this email. Making sure that our dates, people, and places are in the right place at the right time takes precision - as you can see, my hair is burning! There are only 4 schools, so it's not a lot of work, it's just
details. Keep an eye here for updates on future opportunities to volunteer to help make Rossmoor an even better place to live. Together, we can build on this milestone and make a difference—one small action at a time.
Community Groups & Resources
Our community has a number of great ways for you to engage with your neighbors in hobbies and activities. While these are not RHA groups, they are great resources for you and your family members. Check them out.
