Candidate Night - Thursday

The details on Thursday's Candidate Night and how to ask your questions are below so you can get your candidate questions in as soon as possible so the committee can get the final set of them ready for the candidates. The event begins at 6:30 at the Rush Park Auditorium. 

There's been some discussion about the RHA's position on candidates, and as always, the RHA does not endorse or recommend any candidate for any position. This has been our long standing policy and it has not changed. We are and remain candidate neutral. 

We hold our Meet Your Candidates Night Forum so that you can get to know the candidates that you have the opportunity to vote for in the upcoming election. We don't take live questions from the audience so that the candidates all have a fair chance to answer the same questions. We provide the recording of the Forum and the responses to the written questions so that you can use the candidate's own words, comments and remarks as part of your research on who you should vote for when your ballot arrives. 

We do encourage everyone who is registered to vote to send in or drop off their ballot after it arrives during the week of October 7th.

The Magic of Los Al School District

Our September Community Conversation topic was The Magic of the Los Al Unified School District. It’s not a secret that the Los Al School District is a very high performing district. 

In fact, it has been rates in the top 3 districts in Orange County on the state assessment tests for the past 20 years.

The question was what makes the magic of being so consistently good that the majority of people who move into the area will say it’s because of the schools? There has to be something that this district does that is different.

So, we asked Superintendent Dr. Andrew Pulver, 2^nd Area Trustee, Chris Forehan, and Executive Director of LAEF, the foundation partner for the district, Carrie Louge to join us for an informal conversation about our Los Alamitos Unified School District. It was an interesting and insightful conversation. You can read all about it here

Candidate Night Questions

The RHA is hosting our regular election year Meet Your Candidates Night on Thursday, September 26th at Rush Park. The live event will start at 6:30.

We need your questions - what do you want to know from our candidates?

We have invited our 45th Congressional District candidates Michelle Steel and Derek Tran, our 70th Assembly District candidates Jimmy Pham and Tri Ta, our 1st Supervisorial District candidates Frances Marquez and Janet Nguyen, and our four Rossmoor Community Services District Candidates, Tony DeMarco, Mary Ann Remnet, Nathan Searles, and Konya Vivanti to participate.

We will be sending the candidates written questions and then asking some questions live at the event. Each candidate for an office will get to reply to the same set of questions.

SpaceX Launches 1st All-Civilian Spacewalk....

Four millionaire civilians take on the adventure to space, leading the world to more normalized space travel

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six… The countdown starts as Polaris Dawn, the first privately funded spacecraft led by billionaire Jared Isaacman, prepares for take off. The spacecraft also contains retired Lt. Col. Scott Poteet and two SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon. Five, four, three, two, one! Polaris Dawn launched on Sept. 10 at 5:24 a.m. ET from John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida, according to NBC News.

Though Poteet, Gillis and Menon went through extensive training for the flight, only Isaacman had previously been trained as an astronaut. Los Alamitos High School chemistry and physics teacher Mr. Jones remarked on how he would respond if he were given the opportunity to go to space as a civilian.

“I would give it serious thought. Probably would wait till they have more experience, though,” Mr. Jones said.

New School Year - Let's Get HUGS Going

It's the new school year so let's get those HUGS going again! Frequently during the school year (and sometimes even in the summer) our school PTAs and Friends of" groups and clubs organize fundraising events with local merchants and restaurants. These events typically run on a specific date and the business donates a percentage of the sales from the event to the organizer. Sometimes called "Dining for Dollars" these programs raise money for our schools and programs. 

A few years back, the RHA created a HUGS page on our website to showcase these events to our community. Of course, we do need the group to get us the information ahead of time. You can always go to our HUGS page (OurRossmoor.com/hugs) to see what the upcoming events are and which schools they benefit. Besides, you're going to go out to eat anyway, may as well benefit our schools whenever you can, right?
