It looks like Friday morning could see a bit more rain. Then we have a nice weekend ahead of us with mostly sunny skies and temps in the mid to upper 60s. 

Sounds like a great weekend to get outside and tend to some gardening or yard work since the ground will be soft and moist (if not totally soaked). Get those last minute pruning jobs completed as the early bloomers will be sprouting leaves and flowers in the next week or two.

RWC is Looking for Unique Gardens & 
Outdoor Living Spaces

Do you have a yard that you are proud of and would like to share with others?

The Rossmoor Woman’s Club (RWC)is preparing for their annual Spring fundraiser with the tour of unique gardens and outdoor living spaces in Rossmoor.  

The planning committee is in need of homeowners who would like to feature their yard on the tour.  

Perhaps you or someone you know has a beautiful blooming garden in the springtime or something unique about their yard that would help inspire other admirers of nature.  Or maybe someone had their yard recently landscaped and would like to share their gem with others.  

Participating homeowners are awarded a special gift and free tickets for the tour.  Homes in Rossmoor or in the Highlands are eligible and need to be determined before February 26th.  If interested, please contact the committee chair, Sue Owen, at 562-743-6586.

As the youngest board member at The Youth Center, Hatakeyama has dedicated herself to fundraising and youth advocacy, making an impact in Los Alamitos

Ally Hatakeyama, a senior at Los Alamitos High School, is The Youth Center’s youngest board member. Hatakeyama’s dedication and visionary leadership have been instrumental in driving The Youth Center forward, making a lasting impact on the mission they serve: to provide care and resources for all youth.

At The Youth Center, Hatakeyama is the president and founder of the Leadership Council. This student branch emphasizes the importance of student voices and creates programs that prepare young people to succeed, focusing on student wellness.

Bylaw Change: To Reduce Number of Directors

At the January Board meeting, the RHA Directors unanimously passed a change to the Association Bylaws that reduces the number of directors from 13 to 9. 

This change will help facilitate having a more manageable board size while still supporting enough directors to represent our diverse membership. The proposed Bylaw changes are posted on here our website for your review.

We will be discussing this proposed change at our February Board meeting on Tuesday, February 18th at Rossmoor Park. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. After the discussion, Association members present will vote to approve or reject the proposed changes. 

Rossmoor Farmers Market - Thursday 4-7

On Thursday the Rossmoor Certified Farmers Market will be in Rush Park from 4:00 to 7:00. Produce and food vendors (like yummy organic honey) along with craft and care merchants will be there to provide samples and information about their products. Please come check out the goods either as a "whistle stop" or stay a while and visit with your neighbors. It's good either way. See you Thursday at Rush!

Senior Night and a riveting game against Newport Harbor offer a glimpse into varsity soccer life, especially those of seniors finishing their last LAHS season. 

Los Alamitos High School’s varsity girls soccer team burst out of the Griffin inflatable one by one, sprinting through a tunnel of their cheering teammates. 

The announcer’s voice booms over the field as he calls out their names. The girls gather into their starting lineup and tensely listened to the national anthem, anxious to play and to win. This was Los Alamitos High School versus Edison, a battle for first place in the Sunset League, waged on Jan. 23.

The heated match-up opened with player Natalie Lobo, suffering from a season-ending knee injury, honorarily performing the game’s kickoff. This moment of camaraderie was immediately followed by a tense competition in midfield, with LAHS’ possession-focused playing style contrasting with Edison’s direct and pass-heavy methods. By the second half, LAHS’ defenders were highly pressured, constantly on their toes to keep up with the rapid ball movement and powerful shots.

LAHS seniors Victoria Bloch, Sofia Bugarin and Viviana Zacarias charged the goal, aware of the stakes they were facing and the need to work with the team to bring them glory. In the end, LAHS won 2-0, with Zacarias scoring the first in the first half and... Read the rest here...
