Our weather has changed a bit with warmer (low  to mid 70s) and Santa Ana wind conditions here in the OC. It does not look like we will get sustained here, but it does look like the passes and Inland Empire will be windy this week. We will see lower than normal humidity levels, so be sure to stay hydrated.  

And another reminder that street sweeping is happening today (odd sides) and tomorrow (even sides) here in Rossmoor. And we have the 2025 schedule as a calendar on our site as well.

A Request from Chris "Papa" Forehan

Most of you who have children or grandchildren in any of our schools, and many of us who don’t know Los Al Unified Trustee Chris “Papa” Forehan. Chris brings amazing energy and delight to our students, teachers, and staff every time he visits a campus or attends an event. And, he is "on campus" 3-4 times most every week.

Chris shared this small fund raising project with us for some outdoor equipment for the Transitional Kindergarten program at Lee School:

Our own Lee Elementary Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Kids need our help.  As TK students get younger each year, the staff is creating a new recess playground for the kids.  Teacher Mrs. Lock has started a project where we can help with donations.  All $ donations will go to purchasing age-appropriate outside equipment.  The link below will lead you directly to the Lee Project - “Pint-sized Outdoor Adventures - a Project from TK teacher Mrs. Lock." 

 

Let’s rally as community and help make a difference for 48 TK Kids!!!!!

Rossmoor CSD Selects New Officers

On Tuesday evening, our Rossmoor Community Services District selected new officers for the 2025 year. 

Congratulations to President Nathan Searles, 1st Vice President Mary Ann Remnet, and 2nd Vice President Jo Shade. 

When you see them around the neighborhood, please thank them for their service to Rossmoor and congratulate them on their new responsibilities. New District committee appointments are pending and should be announced soon. 

Additionally, the long awaited retirement date for General Manager Mendoza has been announced as May 9, 2025. The search for a new general manager continues. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

2025 Our Rossmoor Magazine Arriving

The 2025 issue of the Our Rossmoor print magazine will be arriving in your mail boxes later this week.

Look for a big white envelope that will contain the full color magazine along with an invitation to join or renew your RHA membership. If you'd rather not wait, you can always sign up for your 2025 membership here.

2025 RHA Membership - Open!

Our traditional RHA "membership drive" kicks off in November with the Christmas Lights nomination Contest and extends through February. Historically, the largest influx of renewals come in shortly after the annual Our Rossmoor Magazine lands in homes between Christmas and New Years. 

This year we are sending out the magazine a little later in January to see if it's the mailing that creates the large number of renewals, or if it's the end of the year that triggers people to renew their memberships. 

This is to say, look for our annual magazine toward mid-January with 2024 in review and a preview of some of the events coming to Rossmoor in 2025.

Winter Quarter Shredding - January 25th

We have been getting a lot of questions about when the next shredding event is scheduled. Thanks for asking. It's great when the community comes together like this.

Our next quarterly shredding event is on Saturday, January 25th at Lee School. We will kick off at 8:00 and close at noon or when the truck is full. More details can be found here on our site.

Griffin community joins together to support fire victims with donation drive

On Sunday (1/12), LAHS hosted a donation drive for victims of the ongoing wildfires in Duarte, California

Volunteers came together from all over Los Alamitos Unified School District: at least 75 students from elementary to high school, LAHS students and staff, parents, Griffin alumni, LAUSD staff and over 50 community members — including five military members. 

The Eaton and Palisades fires broke out on Jan. 7 and has decimated the towns of Pacific Palisades and Altadena. The fires spread rapidly as the Santa Ana winds blew them in different directions, and according to USA Today, more than 12,000 homes and other structures have been destroyed.

With the fires about an hour away from Los Alamitos, LAHS students and community members personally know people who have been affected.
