Hi -

Our upcoming week will see us struggle to reach 70 degrees under partly cloudy (or mostly sunny) skies. It's really nice weather especially with all of the gardening and remodeling happening in our community. 

We are only 5 weeks from the end of the school year. Where has the time gone? That's a great question for another time.😀

RCSD Board Appoints New General Manager

At a special board meeting of the Rossmoor Community Services Board of Directors on 4/17, voted 3-2 (Directors Searles, Shade & Remnet in favor, Demarco & Maynard opposed) to appoint Sharon Landers as the new Rossmoor Community Services District General Manager conditioned on ratification of her employment contract at their regular May 13 Board meeting. 

Ms. Landers brings over 30 years of experience in state, regional and municipal service on both coasts including half a dozen cities, several regional transportation authorities and two state agencies. She has served as City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and Director of Planning in the cities of Carson, Irvine, and Rancho Cucamonga respectively.

The RHA welcomes this appointment and looks forward to working with Ms. Landers in the months ahead.

Rossmoor Shredding Event: A Success Despite Rain 

The Saturday morning rain didn't keep many local residents from bringing their shredding to our quarterly event. More than 130 vehicles stopped by to bring their bags and boxes of documents to be shredded on site at Lee School. 

One of our sponsors, Rossmoor Lux Properties better known as  Nina Mighaccio & Marni Rice braved the elements to welcome our visitors and offer them a cup of coffee while they were there. 

If you missed out because you though we wouldn't be there or just forgot, mark your calendars right no. Our next shredding event will be on Saturday, July 26th from 8:00 until noon (or the truck gets full)  at Lee School.  

The Youth Center Summer Program 

Registrations are OPEN!

Each summer The Youth Center provides summer programs for our neighborhood youth. 

• Camp SHARK (ages 5-12), offers campers a wide range of activities, arts & crafts, sports, science, field trips, and more , keeping kids on-the-go and engaged in activities that are designed to entertain, educate, and exercise their minds and bodies. 
   
• Teen Camp (ages 12-16) where campers are constantly on the go enjoying sports, outgoing activities, and field trips galore with a day each week designated as "Teen Choice" to customize their experience.
   
• Leadership Academy (ages 15-19) this amazing program provides high school students and graduates with specialized training on how to handle real-world challenges outside of high school

These camps are extremely affordable and have generous scholarships available. Extended hours (7-7 each day) are available for both camps, so if your work schedule isn't 9-5 friendly, The Youth Center has you covered.

Silent Book Reading Club - Rossmoor

Nelisha Rodriguez has started a Silent Reading Book Club at Rush Park on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30. They are meeting at the corner of Chianti and Blume.

This group is for adults (18+) who love to read, want to be around others who share the same interest, but who maybe struggle with social situations or small talk. Bring any book you are currently reading or want to read.

Bring your own blanket or chair. No pressure to talk, just read in the park

Senior Signing Day at Los Al

Overflowing with supportive parents, excited friends and proud teachers, the Los Alamitos High School gym abounded with joy at the athletic signing day this past Wednesday. As tables decorated with college banners and flowers lined the center of the gym, senior Griffins eagerly awaited their opportunity to announce their National Letter of Intent to participate in the college of their choice.

Senior Signing Day is a largely celebrated event for seniors in high school due to a celebration of their achievements and hard work, while giving insight into their goals for the future.

The event began with words from Mr. Hyepock, Assistant Principal of Facilities, Athletics and Activities, and Principal Kraus as they each gave a short speech praising the athletes for their hard work and dedication to their sport. Principal Kraus also highlighted the students’ academics, proudly announcing the average GPA among those honored was a cumulative 3.78; this feat is especially worthy of praise as student athletes can average 10-15 hours a week towards their sport.

The honored seniors, comprised of 41 student athletes, included honors from soccer, aquatics, softball, volleyball, baseball, basketball, dance, lacrosse, rowing and football.
