Hi -

We have what looks to be a big warm up coming for the weekend. The projections are for us to climb from the upper 60s to the mis 80s by Friday and Saturday. It seems we will then cool off into the upper 70s for Sunday. Overall a very nice and warm weekend ahead.  

Street Sweeping Tuesday

Yes, we missed the Monday sweeping reminder, but we have you covered for tomorrow (Tuesday) as the sweepers will be back in Rossmoor sweeping up the EVEN sides of our streets. Please make sure the even sides are clear of vehicles and waste carts. Thanks!

HUGE Rossmoor Shoutout: The Family Plumber 

A HUGE shoutout to the locally owned and located The Family Plumber for helping make Rossmoor Park's facilities even better. 

And our own The Youth Center made it all happen for Rossmoor Park. 

Thanks to both, the "Snack Shack" will now have fresh and filtered water! 

The Family Plumber incredibly and generosity  donated a brand new water filtration system at Rossmoor Park! 

Thanks to their support, kids will have access to fresh, filtered water all summer long—and throughout the year!

The Youth Center Summer Program 

Registrations are OPEN!

Each summer The Youth Center provides summer programs for our neighborhood youth. 

• Camp SHARK (ages 5-12), offers campers a wide range of activities, arts & crafts, sports, science, field trips, and more , keeping kids on-the-go and engaged in activities that are designed to entertain, educate, and exercise their minds and bodies. 
   
• Teen Camp (ages 12-16) where campers are constantly on the go enjoying sports, outgoing activities, and field trips galore with a day each week designated as "Teen Choice" to customize their experience.
   
• Leadership Academy (ages 15-19) this amazing program provides high school students and graduates with specialized training on how to handle real-world challenges outside of high school

These camps are extremely affordable and have generous scholarships available. Extended hours (7-7 each day) are available for both camps, so if your work schedule isn't 9-5 friendly, The Youth Center has you covered.

Silent Book Reading Club - Rossmoor

Nelisha Rodriguez has started a Silent Reading Book Club at Rush Park on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30. They are meeting at the corner of Chianti and Blume.

This group is for adults (18+) who love to read, want to be around others who share the same interest, but who maybe struggle with social situations or small talk. Bring any book you are currently reading or want to read.

Bring your own blanket or chair. No pressure to talk, just read in the park

Senior Signing Day at Los Al

Giulietta Morad, Staff Writer with the LAHS Griffin Gazette highlight the programs offered by The Youth Center all year. It's a timely article because the summer programs are filling up fast. Read the full article here.

The Youth Center offers a plethora of different after-school programs for youth in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. These programs positively impact the daily lives of children through socialization and educational activities. 

Some of the activities that occur after school are the After School Academy & Rascals, Girls in STEM & Kids in STEM, Level Up!, Kids Night Out, Music Academy and Tutoring. 

After School Academy & Rascals 

The After School Academy & Rascals program is a safe and supervised space for students to study, do their homework and socialize after school. The schedules of these two programs fit completely with the LAUSD calendar. It runs from Aug. 14- June 5 on every day of the school week from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. 

This program helps students in a variety of ways, including academically and socially. They also provide fun activities for the kids to do, such as video games, crafts and various other tasks that help students stimulate their brains. 

“I learned how to do elephant toothpaste experiments and (the After School Academy) has helped (me) grow socially,” a student at the After School Academy said.

Level Up!

The Youth Center’s Level Up! program is a great way for children, aged 5-8,  to develop more confidence when in social situations. It is an 8-week program that focuses on allowing kids to practice their public speaking and social skills. 

Guiding success in social situations, Level Up! takes place from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on select dates throughout January, February and March. Each week, students practice, learn and participate in different topics relating to public speaking.

Most weeks that school is in session the District's awesome Communications Officer, Nichole Pichardo, puts together the Wrap-Up. It gives you an opportunity to see a quick glimpse of what's happening in our school district each week - in right around 3 minutes. Check it out!
