31st 8:00 - Noon, Lee School
Our weather will be nice with very little chance of rain over the next week and highs in the upper 60s/low 70s. As we break into December and the big push for the holidays, the next 3 weeks will be filled with both chaos and joy. Students will have the big push for tests and projects, families will
have gatherings and events, and of course right here we have both the Rossmoor Toy Drive and the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration. Speaking of those events, we have a rundown of what's coming up below. The Youth Center Has The Freshest Trees Available!
The Youth Center has opened their Christmas Tree Lot at Ganahl Lumber on Los Al Blvd. They have a huge selection of amazingly fresh trees and wreaths available for your home and office. Sizes from table top to 12+ feet are ready to bring home, or get delivered for you (delivery fee applies). The staff
is always super helpful and can get any of your tree related questions answered in a jiffy. Proceeds from the tree sales helps to fund the programs and events The Youth Center puts on throughout the year. It's a simple way you can support our local kids while taking care of finding some of the very freshest trees in the area. Stop by soon -
they are open 7 days a week (noon to 9 p.m. and weekends open earlier at 9 a.m.) until the trees are gone. And yes, they do sell out every year. Shop early!
Rossmoor Winter Festival - Saturday, Dec 13th
The 11th Annual Rossmoor Winter Festival will take place on Saturday, December 13th at Rush Park. This always fun and well attended event features the very popular snow play area, yummy food trucks, live entertainment and a visit from the big guy himself! YES! Santa will be there for all your photo
memories. And all of it is right here at Rush Park. Come join the Fun from 4 to 9 on Saturday December 13th!

drop off a gift or gift card at any of the locations below (including the RCSD office at Rush Park) during regular business hours. Or you can go online and make a donation and let The Youth Center staff shop for the families. This is the time of year for us to be thankful and give when we can. Please consider the Rossmoor Toy Drive when you do. Thanks! For some background, each year the RHA
and Rossmoor help collect unwrapped toys for the local families who might not otherwise get holiday gifts this year. The Youth Center helps local families including military families each year with gifts, gift cards and Christmas Trees so these families can experience the joy of the season.

RCSD Board Appoints Landers as District's GM
The Rossmoor Community Services District Board has appointed Sharon L. Landers as its General Manager, following her service as Interim GM since May 2025. The RHA is glad to welcome Ms Landers on a more permanent basis to manager
our District. Stability and forward progress is critical for Rossmoor's parks and facilities and we have already seen her impact on Rossmoor. Landers brings more than twenty-five years of senior executive public service experience, including leadership roles as City Manager of Carson, Assistant City Manager of Irvine, and Interim Executive Officer for the Bay Area Air Quality Management
District, which serves nine counties throughout the region. In just a few months with Rossmoor, Landers has already helped accelerate several long-standing community priorities. She completed the planning phase for the Rossmoor Park Canopy project—slated to break ground this December—identified cost-saving opportunities within the budget, and re-established long-term planning and policy
practices that support steady stewardship of the community’s parks and shared infrastructure. Residents have noted her clear communication style and her thoughtful, steady approach to community concerns. More on Sharon and the District
here.

605-Katella Construction Update - 12/1/2025
We will update our 605-Katella Project page when we get updates from the OCTA.
Please always check their website for the latest information on closures and detours. Construction continues on the I-605/Katella Avenue Interchange
Project. Crews are expected to realign the on-ramp to create a workspace for a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall, which will include filling the embankment, pavement work, restriping, and placing temporary concrete barriers. This work will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning as early as Monday, Dec. 1, and is anticipated to take about one week. Following
this work, motorists will notice a minor traffic shift on the on-ramp. Here’s what to expect this week: Over the next few months, crews will be working behind k-rail on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue between the freeway and Epson Way. Work includes relocating utilities, reconstructing the sidewalks and
performing roadway work to make room for a new bike lane.
Eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue have both
been reduced to three lanes between the northbound I-605 ramps and Epson Way during this phase of construction. Motorists may experience traffic delays and should allow extra time to reach their destinations. Please use caution while traveling through the construction area.
Work hours are 6.a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend and night work may be required for some activities. As with any construction project, the public may experience noise, vibration and lighting for nighttime construction operations. |
Upcoming Closures Please plan ahead and expect delays during these times. The following closures are expected to be in place nightly beginning as soon as 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday, December 1 through Friday, December 5
(until Saturday 12/6 morning): Outside lanes on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue/Willow
Street, at least one lane will be open to traffic at all times
Outside lane on northbound and southbound I-605 at
Katella Avenue/Willow Street; at least three lanes will be open to traffic at all times

Retaining Wall Construction - Construction on a new retaining wall along the northbound I-605 on-ramp continues with crews
performing structural excavation and shoring activities through the end of this month. This type of wall is called a “Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall,” which will use soil reinforcement techniques to strengthen and support the newly realigned on-ramp.
Ever wonder why the I-605/Katella Avenue Interchange Project is so important? This project will improve travel for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians by: - Modifying northbound and southbound ramps at Katella Avenue
- Adding Class II bike lanes in both directions
- Enhancing sidewalk connectivity between Coyote Creek Channel and Epson
Way
- Constructing ADA curb ramps with new signage and crosswalks

Griffin Gazette: The Griffin Gazette in Nashville: A National Convention Recap Griffin Gazette reporters Amelia Gutierrez, Allie Wilson, and Joshua Lopez Hernandez recap the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Conference in Nashville. You can read the full story here on the
Gazette website
From Nov. 13-16, The Griffin Gazette traveled to Nashville for the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Conference. It was hosted at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, and held various journalism writing-focused workshops. These workshops covered various topics within journalism such as photography, photo editing, writing workshops,
leadership presentations and marketing strategies. With each day broken into seven time slots, students were able to tailor their schedules to attend the sessions that interested them the most. “I learned a lot about copywriting and a lot about the deadly sins of journalism, which we can apply to our journalism class,” Brooklynn De Shazer, an editor for the Griffin Gazette,
said. The conference hosted over 5,000 student journalists from 42 states and eight countries, along with many well-known speakers. This included Pulitzer on the Road, where Pulitzer-prize winning speakers talked about their renowned articles and their prolific journalism experiences. Outside the main convention ballroom, there was also a publication exchange where different schools showcased
their print newspapers and trade with students from other states. “I thought the convention was really great because we really got to connect with a lot of different newsrooms across the nation,” Alizabeth Martin, the Deputy Editor for the Griffin Gazette, said. Some fun activities journalists did at the
conference included getting food at various restaurants, going line dancing,... Here's the rest story.
