allies fought to free millions from internment and concentration camps across Europe, Asia… and even here at home. It’s a reminder with real weight, especially now. 605-Katella Construction Update - 12/5/2025
We will update our 605-Katella Project page when we get updates from the OCTA.
Please always check their website for the latest information on closures and detours. Construction continues on the I-605/Katella Avenue Interchange
Project. Crews are expected to realign the on-ramp to create a workspace for a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall, which will include filling the embankment, pavement work, restriping, and placing temporary concrete barriers. This work will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning as early as Monday, Dec. 8, and is anticipated to take about one week. Following
this work, motorists will notice a minor traffic shift on the on-ramp. Here’s what to expect this week: Over the next few months, crews will be working behind k-rail on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue between the freeway and Epson Way. Work includes relocating utilities, reconstructing the sidewalks and
performing roadway work to make room for a new bike lane.
Eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue have both
been reduced to three lanes between the northbound I-605 ramps and Epson Way during this phase of construction. Motorists may experience traffic delays and should allow extra time to reach their destinations. Please use caution while traveling through the construction area.
Work hours are 6.a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend and night work may be required for some activities. As with any construction project, the public may experience noise, vibration and lighting for nighttime construction operations. |
Upcoming Closures Please plan ahead and expect delays during these times. The following closures are expected to be in place nightly beginning as soon as 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday, December 8 through Friday, December 12
(until Saturday 12/13 morning): Outside lanes on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue/Willow
Street, at least one lane will be open to traffic at all times

by: - Modifying northbound and southbound ramps at Katella Avenue

Griffin Gazette: International school systems: Comparing educational structures from across the globe Griffin Gazette reporters Josie Dayne, Brooklynn De Shazer, and Alyssa Mathews discuss the differing educational systems in Mexico, France, Germany and Japan . You can read the full story here on the Gazette website
No matter what country you attend school in, education is a priority. School systems all work the same, but also operate in vastly different ways. All countries require the same basic subjects in school; however, the number of school days and graduation requirements vary by country. One main difference that stands out across all international systems is the number of classes and the style of instruction students receive. In Germany, students have a choice between different types of religion classes, take two different politics classes and can even choose between taking courses in English or German to cement their biliteracy. For the Japanese school system, the subjects per day are given based on students’ classes. Unlike American schools, students don’t get the same schedule every day. Students might go to two classes on Tuesday and four on Thursday, following a block schedule unique to their academic plans. Schools in Japan are mostly public. Private schools are available, but cost approximately $3,000 USD or 45,000 Yen. In Japan, sports are less popular as extracurricular activities than actual activities, but there is still a high enrollment in sports. Some popular activities include calligraphy, tea ceremony, brass dancing and chorus. “A really interesting extracurricular I did was flower arranging,” said Sophia June, a Los
Alamitos High School junior who spent last summer in Japan as a foreign exchange student. Additionally, Japanese students hoping to go to college can attend a bachelor’s program for about four years, similar to other nations. To get into these schools, students must take a test, which is referred to as “examination hell,” which is an entrance and aptitude test used to assess students’ skills
in certain subjects. Some fun activities journalists did at the conference included getting food at various restaurants, going line dancing,... Here's the rest story.
