Our weather seems to be in a bit of a holding pattern with a very comfortable week of highs in the upper 70s and may even peak into the low 80s. This continues to be a great time to get outside and do any yard work or garden prep for your winter vegetables. Or you can go for a pleasant walk along the tree lined streets of Rossmoor. It's a very pretty time of year. Sweepers This Week It's sweeper time in Rossmoor again. Monday and Tuesday this week the sweepers will return to clean up our streets. Some leaves are starting to fall and of course there's the dirt and grime
from the vehicles that cruise our streets. Please remove your vehicles from the ODD side addresses on Monday and EVEN sides on Tuesday.
Los Al Drama Presents: The Addams Family
Halloween is one of the most beloved holidays in Rossmoor, bringing out creativity, costumes, and candy galore. But while it’s full of festive fun, Halloween also has a spooky side when it comes to the environment. From candy wrappers and costumes to single-use decorations, much of what we use during this season ends up in landfills—or worse, polluting our
oceans. Unlike wastewater from our homes, which is treated before it re-enters the environment, anything that goes into our storm drain system flows directly to the beach in Seal Beach without any treatment. That means every bit of trash left on the street or washed down a drain has the potential to harm wildlife and water
quality. But here’s the good news: you can still have a blast this Halloween while making smart, sustainable choices that protect our planet. Whether you’re trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, or hosting a party, these five simple tips will help make your Halloween greener—and cleaner—for everyone. Click here for the 5 simple tips...

605-Katella Construction Update - 9/28/2025
We will update our 605-Katella Project page when we get updates from the OCTA.
Please always check their website for the latest information on closures and detours. Construction continues on the I-605/Katella Avenue Interchange
Project. Here’s what to expect this week: Crews have completed the demolition of the sidewalk and are now relocating utilities on the westbound side of Katella
Avenue. This work is slated to continue for several months before the sidewalk is reconstructed later this year.
Motorist should be advised that the outside lane on westbound Katella Avenue requires them to enter the 605 north on-ramp. Additional, signs have been placed to
direct motorist to the on-ramp .
Eastbound Katella Avenue Activities Contractors are planning to install temporary concrete barriers, which would reduce eastbound
Katella to one lane. Following this activity, crews will demolish the sidewalk to accommodate the new bike lane. Additional information, including pedestrian detours, will be available soon.
Crews continue work on the three retaining walls to be constructed to accommodate project improvements. These retaining walls will be built along westbound Katella Avenue within the Coyote Creek Channel.
Ever wonder why the I-605/Katella Avenue Interchange Project is so important? This project will improve travel for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians by: - Modifying northbound and southbound ramps at Katella Avenue
- Adding Class II bike lanes in both directions
- Enhancing sidewalk connectivity between Coyote Creek Channel and Epson
Way
- Constructing ADA curb ramps with new signage and crosswalks

Griffin Gazette: American Legion Post 716 Hosts Unveiling for New Mural Lily Zimmerman, Staff Writer with the Los Al
Griffin Gazette reports on the Los Alamitos American Legion Post 716 unveiling of their new mural by retired Sergeant First Class Mario Cespedes, a former Marine and soldier. You can read the full story here on the Gazette website
On Sunday, September 28, a crowd gathered around the Los Alamitos American Legion Post 716 to watch as a team on the roof lifted a heavy canvas obscuring a new mural. Retired Sergeant First Class Mario Cespedes, who served in both the Marine Corps and Army, painted the mural to honor past and present members of the
armed forces.
Cespedes began his military service in 1996, when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Cespedes served as an infantry rifleman and sniper before completing his service in 2000.
Cespedes earned a degree in Computer Arts and Animation before joining the U.S. Army in 2008 as a Cavalry Scout. Cespedes served in a variety of positions and deployed several times, concluding his career as a Senior Trainer with the Cobra Team at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. Cespedes has been knighted in the Order of Saint George and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, several Army Commendation and Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medals from both the Army and Marine Corps, the Combat Action Badge and the NATO Medal. Before the mural was revealed, the crowd gathered in the Legion’s main room for a
ceremony organized in part by Los Alamitos High School senior Sofia Haag. Haag helped reach out to the guest speakers and create the handouts, which provide background information about the event.... ...Here are more photos and the rest of the story.
