Hi
Happy Veteran's Day - and we salute and thank each and every Veteran for their contributions and sacrifices to our great nation. There would be no "American Lifestyle" with out them.
Thank You!
With the holiday season gearing up, and the weather actually feeling like fall, we have some great events coming up here in Rossmoor.
First up we have the annual Rossmoor Holiday Pole Workshop on Saturday November 21 at Rush Park. The Workshop
will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. with a how-to demonstration. All the materials to build your own Holiday Pole will be available for you. This is a great opportunity to build your own Pole with the direction and guidance of the Scouts from Troop 188. Check out the article below for additional details.

WinterFest Second, the RCSD and the RHA invite you to the Rossmoor WinterFest on Friday December 11th at Rush Park. Kicking off at 6:00 p.m., this is going to be a fun evening with arts & crafts for the kids, a bounce house, choir performances by students from
both middle schools, and a live DJ.
And what WinterFest be without Santa himself along with his reindeer? That's right Santa will be there to collect Christmas requests from all the "good" boys and girls. We will also have a spectacular tree lighting ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
There will be food trucks, a screening of Elf the movie, and a holiday lights
trolley tour as well. We will get you more details on these in the coming weeks. Just mark the date and start looking forward to a great evening here in Rossmoor.
Halloween Pet Photo Contest The winners have been announced for the Halloween Pet Costume Photo Contest. Adorable and fun costume photos were submitted to the judges and there were some hard choices to be made. But, the decisions are in and you can see the photos here on the website, and there is more info below.

The Emergency Prep Town Hall Meeting
is now available to watch from your computer or mobile device directly from our site. Check it out here Sewer Smells Recently, there have been a number of discussions in NextDoor Rossmoor about the sewer oder that seems to occur toward the north end of the tract, especially around Lee and Weaver schools. Rossmoor Holiday Pole
Workshop! |
You've seen them all around the neighborhood: light posts with Christmas or other holiday or celebration swag on them. These are the now famous Rossmoor Holiday Light Poles. There are more than 350 of them in the neighborhood so it is likely there’s at
least one on your block. Some folks leave them up year round, others use them for the holidays and other special occasions like graduations and birthdays.
This year’s workshop will be held on Saturday November 21st at Rush Park from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The demonstration on how to assemble the poles will begin right at 2:00, so please arrive early. Scouts from Troop 188 will be
running the demonstration and will be on hand to help you build your post. All the materials needed to build the poles will be at the workshop courtesy of the Troop; however, there are some tools that you’ll want to bring along with you: - A fully charged cordless drill
- Drill bit set (specifically 1/8, 5/16 and 3/8
sizes)
- Standard Phillips screwdriver head for drill
- Regular sized manual Phillips screwdriver
- A pair of saw-horses
- A tape measure and a pencil
- 2" hole saw (Only bring this if you have one - it's a 1-time cut, and we'll have a few you can use if don't already have one.)
The cost for the pole materials is $70 and you can add a lighted garland for an additional $30. Please bring cash or a check to cover these supply costs.
Come join your neighbors and have some fun on what’s likely to be a sunny Saturday in Rossmoor. Please do bring along a jacket or sweater as the afternoon breeze can make things a bit chilly.
Oh, and if you cannot join us at the Workshop itself, you can order a Holiday Pole from Troop 188 and they will deliver it to your house.
Orders must be placed no later than December 5th. Additional details and the order form can be found on the Troop’s Holiday Pole website: http://ChristmasLightPost.com

There have been a number of complaints about sewer smells in the tract, especially in the area around Lee and Weaver schools. Rossmoor resident Brad Hakala has stepped up to coordinate the tracking of the sewage smells along with contacting the RCSD and
RHA.
In response, the RCSD contacted the Orange County Sanitation Districts and had an engineer come out to check out sewer lines and determine whether our sewer lines were a problem in any manner.
Brad received a call from the County engineer who stated that there was no blockage in our lines. The engineer also tested the lines for gas leakage, and could not find anything. So, that was good in the sense that it rules out our own sewer lines. And thanks to the RCSD for their quick response to the request.
Thus far, it’s appearing that the culprit of the smell is the Long Beach Wastewater Reclamation Plant which is located south of Willow and just west of the 605 freeway. This is not scientifically definitive, but it’s appearing that this is the source of the smell. In communication with the RSD, they were fairly definitive about this,
and also informing us that our sewage is handled by Orange County Sanitation Districts (Fountain Valley). Getting this resolved is important both for the health of our residents and the school children.
If
you smell any sewage, please contact Brad (bhakala@hakala-law.com) to let him know when (date and time) and where you were at the time. If you have experienced the smells here in Rossmoor in the past, please let him know where you live so he
can help determine the most often effected areas.
Thanks and we will update the community as new information becomes available or you can join the discussion in NextDoor Rossmoor

Invasive tropical mosquitoes have been found in Los Alamitos by Orange County Vector Control. A thorough investigation was conducted and the presence of Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) was confirmed in both locations. The Vector Control District has deployed personnel to the
City of Los Alamitos to conduct neighborhood inspections of properties for mosquito breeding and standing water in the surrounding area. The State issued a Health Advisory on 10/14 and OC Vector Control is requesting the public report sightings of these mosquitoes or daytime mosquito bites to them at 714.971.2421

Coyote Sightings in Rossmoor |
As you may know over the past few months there have been sightings of coyotes in the El Dorado Park area, Seal Beach, College Park West, and Los Alamitos.
Preventative actions you should take for coyotes:
- Do not let small children play outside without supervision,
particularly in the early morning or at night.
- Do not let your small pets (cats and small dogs) roam free outside, even in your backyard, unsupervised, especially in the early morning or at night.
- Do not create conditions that could attract coyotes or small wild animals that coyotes feed on:
(a)
Never feed coyotes or any other wild animal! Feeding of coyotes or any other wild animal is against the law (See Title 14, California Code of Regulations 251.1). Simply stated, “A fed coyote is a dead coyote,” because once they learn that humans are a source of food, they stop hunting for their native foods, become a “problem” coyote and the State is forced to kill the problem coyote.
(b) Do not feed your pets outside or leave pet food or water bowls outside.
(c) Do not feed wild birds, coyotes are attracted to feeding
birds.
(d) Secure your pet doors at night.
(e) Properly secure your garbage in containers (not just plastic bags) and if possible do not out your garbage on the street the night before collection.
(f) Pick up any dropped fruit (peaches, apricots, plums, avocados) and pick any ripe berries. If you have garden vegetables, do not let them over ripen. Coyotes love melons.
- Clear any dense brush from around your backyard.
- Install motion-activated lighting or sprinklers.
- If a coyote approaches or acts aggressively, throw rocks, make noise, look big, and pick up small children and pets. Do not turn your back to the
animal.
- Notify the RCSD at 562.430.3707 or rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org if you see a coyote, lose a pet, or find evidence of a pet kill.
- Notify Orange County Flood Control or the RHA of any openings in fences or under fences along flood control channels or ditches.
Most of all, if you see something report it to the RCSD. It's important that we keep the authorities updated on where and when coyotes or evidence of them appear in Rossmoor and the surrounding areas.

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor
Walk & Talk meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk. The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and
what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.
It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.
