[rha] Last Chance - Holiday Home Tour, WinterFest & Christmas Lights

Published: Sat, 12/05/15

Hi

To all of you celebrating Hanukkah - or the Festival of Lights - starting at sundown Sunday, we wish you the very best.

There are only 19 shopping days until Christmas - so you'll need to get busy and finish up your shopping!

And, you'll want to plan your shopping around these dates as it's a busy couple of weeks here in the neighborhood.
  • First off TOMORROW (Sunday) is the Rossmoor Holiday Home Tour, so today is the last day to get your advance tickets and save some money.

  • Next up is Rossmoor WinterFest on Friday (12/11)

  • Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration judging 12/12 & 12/13 with the Celebration Hotspots Map available later in the week

  • Rossmoor Recycles - 12/19 8:00 a.m. to Noon. It's a week early this month due to the Christmas weekend.
Street Sweeper Monday - Move your vehicles
Yes, it's that time again, Monday December 7th is not only Peal Harbor Day, it's also street sweeper day here in Rossmoor. We all pay for the sweeper service, let's make sure all of our streets get swept.

Rossmoor WinterFest
Mark your calendars for a fun night at Rush Park. The RCSD and the RHA invite you to the Rossmoor WinterFest on Friday December 11th. Kicking off at 6:00 p.m. This is going to be a great event with arts & crafts for the kids, a bounce house, choir performances by students from both middle schools, and a live DJ.

Plan on grabbing some dinner from one of the fine food trucks, then check out the art & crafts that will be available for the making. Don't miss the tree lighting at 7:00 p.m. and get your photo with Santa after checking out his reindeer - why go to a mall and mess with all the crowds? Stay here in the neighborhood and get your pictures here.

Then hop a trolley ride and check out some of the best decorates homes in the neighborhood with your friend and family. Then you can close out your evening with a cool screening of Elf in the auditorium. A very cool new tradition is starting in Rossmoor...

Check out the details the Rossmoor WinterFest website

Rossmoor Christmas Lights Contest

It’s that time of the year for the 9th Annual RHA Christmas Lights Celebration, and we are so grateful for every fuse you replace and icicle light hung!

UPDATE:
We already have more than 20 homes entered -
Let's make this the biggest contest ever!

Also, new for this year is a chance for Christmas travelers to vote for their favorite house. Attendees of the Rossmoor WinterFest on Dec. 11 in Rush Park will be given a map with home participants, and they will be able to select the Rossmoor dwelling that best represents the Christmas holidays.

Now is the time to sign up your house (or your neighbor’s house), so we can identify all the enchanting lights in the neighborhood and create the Rossmoor Hot Spots Map. This is the 9th year the RHA has organized the special Christmas Lights Celebration event with previous recognition names like:
  • Good Neighbor Award
  • Griswold Award
  • Silent Night Award
  • Winter Wonderland Award
  • Jurassic Christmas Award
 -  just to name a few.

We do it so the families can travel throughout Rossmoor and know where to be enamored in the Christmas spirit.  Not just homes - even streets like Woodstock Road, get into the action.

Sign up by sending your home address, name, email address and phone number to
Rossmoorlights@gmail.com.  Or you can call Chris Marshall at 562-370-3050 to enter.

In addition to the WinterFest votes, RHA judging for all the recognition awards will take place the weekend of Dec. 12, with home write-ups and the Rossmoor Hot Spots Map going live later that week on the RHA website.

Planning ahead, next year will be the 10-year anniversary of the Christmas Lights Celebration, and the RHA is looking for volunteers to help coordinate the celebration. Please contact Chris Marshall if you’re also obsessed with the holiday and can help!

Whether you’re decorating your lawn with 20,000 lights or a simple Holiday Light Post, it’s that time of year to soak in the Christmas spirit and celebrate with your neighbors!

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.
