We have a busy weekend here in Rossmoor. On Saturday we have the Recycling Drive from 8:00 to Noon at Rush Park. Please be sure to bring your newspapers, soda cans, and plastic bottles to help the Optimist Club and Rossmoor.

Also on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Seal Beach Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will collect potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Leisure World Retirement Community – FRONT GATE at 13533 Seal Beach Blvd. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

And for you who like classic cars, you're in for a huge treat. The Seal Beach Car Show is on Main Street downtown from 10-4. Hundreds of cars will be on display all day. Then Sunday....

Our own Rossmoor Community Festival will be at Rush Park from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will have the Rossmoor Classic Car Show, games, rides, community booths, and our famous Dog Parade. Plan to join us for this fun day at the park.

RHA Membership

Thanks to all of you who have joined or renewed your RHA membership for 2016. Your dues are what allow us to provide the scholarships and other investments like the Kempton Park project, we make into our community. It's because of you the RHA exists. Thanks for your support.

Rossmoor Recycles: Saturday 4/30

Our monthly Rossmoor Recycles Drive is Saturday, April 30! Please bring you your recyclable newspapers and mixed paper waste, recyclable cans and plastic bottles - help put some $$$ back into the Rossmoor community!

Then come back to Rush Park for our Community Festival on Sunday May 1st.

Rossmoor Community Festival - 2016

The 2016 Rossmoor Community Festival is coming very soon - Sunday May 1st from 10:00 to 4:00 at Rush Park. Join us for the day and experience the fun, rides, carnival games, neighborhood service providers, community groups, food trucks, live entertainment, Dog Parade, and Classic Car Show.

The Festival brings together fun and activities for the whole family including rides, carnival games, rides, and of course a chance to see your neighbors. In addition, Festival attendees always enjoy these highlights:

Entertainment – Local artists, bands, choirs, and performers all take the stage to entertain the Festival goers. See the site for line up details
Classic Car Show – Sign-up to show your classic vehicle TODAY. There’s no entry fee and the Festival awards trophies in many categories each year. There are some space limitations, so contact Lee Lindquist (leelindquist@socal.rr.com) right away or sign up online - Registration is free.
Dog Parade – Dress up your dog for the famous Dog Parade. Sign up on site at the Festival starting at noon. There’s no entrance fee and great prizes will be awarded.
Food – There are a good number of food choices from gourmet food trucks to more traditional food booths, the Festival has everything you’d expect in the way of food, and maybe even some (healthy) things that you would not. Plan on checking out what’s on the menu this year!
Information & Education – The Festival hosts a fair number of community organizations and neighborhood service providers who are available to answer your questions about their expertise and pass along free items when you stop by their booth. From how to be safer in your home to how adjusting your back could possibly help you breathe better, these local experts are here to help improve your life.

RWC - Outdoor Living & Garden Tour

The Lucky 13th annual Rossmoor Woman's Club Garden Tour, will showcase 7 beautiful gardens for you to tour, so mark your calendars for Sunday May 15th, from 10am-4pm.

At Rush Park there will be Food Trucks as well as vendors.

Tickets are $10 and are on sale now at the following locations:
Standing Ovation Floral Gallery, Antica Olive Oils, Prep Kitchen Essentials, Britta's Old Town Garden, McNally Lighting and on the Rossmoor Women's Club website.

All proceeds go to local charities that we support like, Bethune Transitional Center, We Care, Bus Passes for school children, Los Alamitos HS Scholarships & many others.

Kempton Park Native Plant Workshop

If you’ve driven by Kempton Park (3102 Kempton) recently, you’re seen that things are changing. Much of the existing landscaping has been removed and the ground is being prepared for an exciting new design.

Our friends at Back To Natives have designed a native landscape and along with them, the RCSD, RHA, and Eagle Scout candidate Owen Pearce are revitalizing the park. Funding for this redesign project is coming from the RHA, RCSD, and the funds raised by Owen as part of his Eagle Project.

On Saturday May 7th, Back To Natives is putting on a free native plant workshop to show us the native plant layout and answer any questions we may have about the design and most importantly, about native plants. This hands on Workshop is for residents of Rossmoor and the surrounding area. Get the flyer for workshop details.

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win

Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Be Aware - Coyotes Are Here

We are continuing to hear about coyote sightings, especially in the north end of Rossmoor. Many of these sightings have been during the mid-day. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight).

There have been fewer sightings over the past week, which is nice, but could be the quiet before the storm. Fish and Game officials warn that this quiet time is likely due to the spring breeding cycle.

The RCSD, RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with state and county agencies are developing a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. Details will be available in the next few weeks and we will be seeking your participation in creating a safe and humane solution to the challenge we face. Be on the look out for more information here and on the RHA and RCSD websites.

Additionally, report any sightings to the Rossmoor Community Service District at 562.430.3707 or rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org with your name, phone number, time, date and location of the sighting, along with a brief description of what you saw happening.

RHA Membership

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

Contributes to our schools through LAEF (Los Alamitos Education Foundation) in support of school projects.
Awards graduating high school residents scholarships in excess of $4,000 each year.
Coordinates and hosts numerous community events, meet the candidate nights, monthly forums, and town hall meetings, including the Rossmoor Community Festival.
Keeps the curb addresses painted and visible for emergency responders and deliveries.
Helps to fund periodic safety and security needs within Rossmoor.
Keeps the neighborhood informed and the communication channels open via the Rossmoor Signature News magazine, RHA eNews, social media platforms, and the RHA website.

And while the these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $25 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.
