Hi
It looks like our weather is warming up a bit as we head into the end of May and Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of summer. Be sure to monitor your landscaping and adjust
your watering cycles. Many residents turned off their automatic sprinklers during the winter. Remember we are still only allowed to water our landscaping with automated sprinklers twice a week on specific days. Be mindful and continue to conserve water while keeping your plants alive.
Sweeper Monday Monday (5/16) is Sweeper Monday here in Rossmoor. Please
remember to move your vehicles from Rossmoor streets. It's important to remember not only do clean streets look nice, but the sweeping action helps to remove mosquito breeding grounds from our gutters. Also, if your trash pick-up day happens to be on Monday, please place your trash containers on the parkway rather than in the street. This helps keep the path clear for the sweepers.
If for some reason your street does not get swept by 5:00 p.m, please call the RCSD office
(562.430.3707) and/or our sweeping contractor RF Dickson (562.923.5441) and let them know. It's our neighborhood and we are all in this together.
Rossmoor Community Festival Our Rossmoor Community Festival was the biggest ever. Thank
you for your support and attendance. It was a terrific event. We will have a full recap in the Rossmoor Signature News coming out in July. And of course, there will be photos posted on the Festival site. We also want to thank our sponsors for their continued support of Rossmoor.
Paint Your World Purple The Katella Senior Living Community and the American Cancer Society are holding a Relay for Life event for Rossmoor, Los Alamitos, and Seal Beach on Saturday June 4 from noon to 6:00 p.m. The Relay For Life unites our community to Celebrate survivors, Remember loved ones lost, and to remind us to take action and Fight Back to finish the fight.
This family friendly free event will be held at the Katella Senior Living Community (3953 Katella at the corner of Katella and
Bloomfield) and will include live entertainment, music, and life changing speakers. Contact Danielle Ventura (714.269.8325) or visit their website for additional details.

Come out to the 2nd annual District-Wide STEAM Showcase on Saturday, May 21!
It takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in and around the Los Alamitos High School Gym.
The
event is free and open to the public. The Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF) is continuing its work with the schools and students of the Los Alamitos Unified School District by providing STEAM fairs on all campuses and this STEAM Showcase!
The LAEF STEAM Initiative is funded by generous donations to the 2015-16 King and Queen of Hearts campaign, which ended on February 19 at the coronation gala and raised $95,000. Included in this total is a $5000 matching
grant from the Rossmoor Homeowners Association. LAEF also received generous funding from the Tesoro Foundation in the amount of $20,000, which supports the Middle School Robotics program and STEAM initiative.
At the STEAM Showcase, students of all ages will present their projects and have their work on display for all to see. The Showcase will feature a key-note presentation from Bill Cusato,
Director at The Boeing Company.
LAEF has also partnered with Play-Well TEKnologies, a California-based company specializing in LEGO-inspired engineering classes for kids, who will be on site for the showcase. Experience the Reptile Zoo and Recess Revolution, as well as Bubble Art with the Youth Center.
STEAM professionals, including Virgin Galactic, Northrup Grumman, SC Edison, Boeing, Alamitos Eye Care, Southern California
Brain Center and Build-It Workspace, will be on-hand to provide interactive booths that will introduce students to career opportunities. Snacks and drinks will be provided to round out the morning fun!
Weaver Elementary School held their LAEF STEAM Fair and Family Night on April 28 where hundreds of kids and family members filled the school’s courtyard to view the amazing projects created by the students. The next STEAM Fairs will be held at McGaugh Elementary
on May 12, Rossmoor Elementary on May 19, and at McAuliffe Middle School and LAHS on May 20.

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meeting at
Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you
out. It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least
extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Be Aware - Coyotes Are Here
|
|
|
The number of coyote sightings in Rossmoor is increasing mainly due to the breeding cycle and the rain forcast, which keeps the storm channel gates open. At least some of these sightings have been during the mid-day. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your
sight).
The RCSD, RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with state and county agencies are developing a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. Details will be available in the next few weeks and we will be seeking your participation in creating a safe and humane solution to the challenge we face. Be on the look out for more information here and on the RHA and RCSD websites. You can sign up for more information here as well
Additionally, report any sightings to the Rossmoor Community Service District at 562.430.3707 or rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org with your name, phone
number, time, date and location of the sighting, along with a brief description of what you saw happening.
