Hi

This is short notice so we will get right to it:

The Public Meeting Notice from the City of Seal Beach is below:

The City of Seal Beach Environmental Quality Control Board (EQCB) will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers to accept public comments on the Initial Study and draft Mitigated Negative Declaration that was prepared in conjunction with an application for a health club in the Shops at Rossmoor center.

A notice (attached to this email for your reference) was sent to property owners surrounding the project site to notify them of the review period for this document. The review period will end on May 18, 2016. Please forward the attached meeting agenda to your residents and notify them that they are invited to provide comments at this meeting. If they are not able to attend the meeting they can submit a letter or email any comments or concerns.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding this item.

Respectfully,

Crystal Landavazo, Senior Planner

(562) 431-2527, Ext. 1324

This is a unique and last minute opportunity for the owners and residents of Rossmoor and affected neighbors to make their presence and comments known to the  City of Seal Beach on the negative environmental impacts of the proposed health club.

Thanks to our friends at the Rossmoor Park Owners Association, the majority of the Rossmoor Health Club Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration document was scanned and can be downloaded from our website. If you want to see the entire document, please visit Seal Beach City Hall or the Los Alamitos/Rossmoor Library between now and Wednesday 5/18.

West Nile Virus Found in Seal Beach

First Indications of West Nile Virus in 2016. The first indications of West Nile virus in 2016 have been detected in samples of mosquitoes collected from the cities of Seal Beach and La Habra. The mosquitoes tested positive for the virus on May 13, 2016. The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (District) routinely monitors populations of adult mosquitoes and tests groups of adult female mosquitoes for the presence of West Nile virus.

Please remove any standing water from your property. If you see standing water in the storm/flood control channels within Rossmoor, please call OC Flood (714.955.0200) AND OC Vector Control (714.971.2421) to report the location of the standing water and request they take the appropriate measures to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Be Aware - Coyotes Are Here
Coyotes in Rossmoor

The number of coyote sightings in Rossmoor is increasing mainly due to the breeding cycle and the rain forcast, which keeps the storm channel gates open. At least some of these sightings have been during the mid-day. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight).

The RCSD, RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with state and county agencies are developing a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. Details will be available in the next few weeks and we will be seeking your participation in creating a safe and humane solution to the challenge we face. Be on the look out for more information here and on the RHA and RCSD websites. You can sign up for more information here as well

Additionally, report any sightings to the Rossmoor Community Service District at 562.430.3707 or rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org with your name, phone number, time, date and location of the sighting, along with a brief description of what you saw happening.
