[rha] West Nile & Zika Virus Update, Recycling Drive, RHA Election

Published: Tue, 05/24/16

Hi

As most of you know, the proposed health club project for the Shops at Rossmoor has been sent back for more study, especially on the traffic impacts on St. Cloud. The project is not by any means dead. There will be additional public meetings in the coming months. Stay alert for meeting notices and updates.

Recycling Drive Saturday
Stop by Rush Park this Saturday between 8:00 AM and Noon to drop off your recyclable newspapers, mixed paper waste, recyclable cans, and plastic bottles. Details on our monthly recycling drive are below.

West Nile Virus Found in Seal Beach

First Indications of West Nile Virus in 2016. The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD) has issued an update (read here)  on the West Nile and Zika Viruses. the OCMVCD monitors populations of adult mosquitoes and tests groups of adult female mosquitoes for the presence of the viruses in Rossmoor and throughout the County.

Please remove any standing water from your property (mosquitoes can breed in as little as a bottle cap of water). If you see standing water in the storm/flood control channels within Rossmoor, please call OC Flood (714.955.0200) AND OC Vector Control (714.971.2421) to report the location of the standing water and request they take the appropriate measures to eliminate these mosquito breeding grounds.

We’ll see you there!

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Be Aware - Coyotes Are Here
Coyotes in Rossmoor

The number of coyote sightings in Rossmoor is increasing mainly due to the breeding cycle and the rain forecast, which keeps the storm channel gates open. At least some of these sightings have been during the mid-day. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight).

The RCSD, RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with state and county agencies are developing a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. Details will be available in the next few weeks and we will be seeking your participation in creating a safe and humane solution to the challenge we face. Be on the look out for more information here and on the RHA and RCSD websites. You can sign up for more information here as well

Additionally, report any sightings to the Rossmoor Community Service District at 562.430.3707 or rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org with your name, phone number, time, date and location of the sighting, along with a brief description of what you saw happening.

RHA Membership

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

And while the these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $25 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.

You'll be supporting the RHA and its many efforts to keep Rossmoor the great place to live it is today. Join or renew today!
