Hi
This weekend and into early next week, will be HOT. Please take precautions to stay safe and see
the article below with tips from OC Health.
Stay cool and catch our upcoming events. These events will be fun and the outdoor activity may be just what you're looking for. Take advantage of them, they are right here in Rossmoor at Rush Park, and they are all free to
attend.
First we have the Friday night Twin Ticket events on 6/17, 7/15, and 8/19. Each evening starts at 6:00 PM and will feature a concert and a family film. These are perfect for family picnics and just unwinding from the week.
That means TOMORROW Friday 6/17 at Rush Park 6:00 PM
Shakespeare in the Park is back to entertain us with Othello and Cymbeline on Saturday 7/23 and Sunday 7/24. Both evenings start at 7:00 PM at Rush
Park.
Local
Elections Yes, it’s the election season and let all of the opinions and pomp fly. Worst case it will be entertaining and the best case is that we get to have our voices heard. Especially locally.
Local Elections for the Los Alamitos School Board (3 of 5 seats) and the
Rossmoor Community Services District (also 3 of 5 seats) will be held along with the general election on November 8, 2016.
Those interested in running for these important positions can find out more from the Run for Office website (LAUSD here and RCSD here). While this site is not official, it is a good place to start your
research process into what it takes to run for one of these leadership positions.
The filing window for these positions is between July 18th and August 12th. Additional questions can be answered by the Orange County Registrar of Voters-Elections at 714.567.7600 or via email: rovwebmaster@rov.ocgov.com
There are some requirements for both of these boards, so if you are interested, now is the time to find out what needs to be done to get your name on the ballot in November. Get started at the links above.
Rossmoor Recycles + Document Shredding As usual
our Rossmoor Recycles program will take places at Rush Park on the last Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. until Noon. This month that's June 25th.
An exciting addition....
Starting this month The File
Depot - A locally owned company that specializes in affordable document storage, scanning and shredding with exceptional customer service, will join our program to help you clear your home and garage of those unwanted papers and financial documents that are too sensitive to put in the trash or recycle. These would include old tax forms and documents, checks and check registers, bills, and other legal documents. It's simply smarter to get those old documents out of your
home.
The good folks at The File Depot will take your banker box sized boxes and shred them for a Rossmoor Special price of just $6 per box. And what's even nicer, they will take any box or bag of paper you want shredded for just 24 cents a pound (that's less than a third of the cost per pound of your most local shredding options).
LA Fitness @ The Shops Updates The City of Seal Beach Planning Commission will hold a Planning Commission meeting on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Marina Center located at 151 Marina Drive, the public hearing is to consider a conditional use permit CUP15-7 and initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration that was prepared in conjunction with the application for a health club in the Shops at
Rossmoor center.
RCSD Objects to Environmental Analysis
The RCSD has formally opposed
the environmental analysis and has sent letters to both the Seal Beach mayor and planning commission expressing this opposition. RCSD Board President Tony DeMarco's letter lists more than two dozen issues that were expressed by both Rossmoor and Sela
Beach residents at the Environmental Quality Control Board (EQCB) meeting last month that have not yet been addressed. The Planning Commission meeting is moving forward despite the 4-1 vote of the EQCB to not recommend the project because of its flawed environmental analysis.
Please read President DeMarco's letter, and plan to attend and voice your opinions and concerns to the City of Seal Beach. Now is the time to have your voice be heard.
Articles Below... And be sure to check out our articles below on Rossmoor Recycles, our free summer concerts and films at Rush Park, and an update on our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program.

Come join in the fun at Rush Park for this free summer evening event. This month's concert band is the Elm Street Band: They play in Rossmoor every year and are the community’s favorite band. They’ve been referred to as “The World’s Greatest Garage/Surf Band” and were written up in the Long Beach Press-Telegram as

The number of coyote sightings in Rossmoor is is expected to increase in the coming weeks as the female coyotes begin to train their pups to hunt. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO
NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
The RCSD, RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with our state and county public safety agencies have developed a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. We held our first orientation meeting on 5/31 for those that expressed an interest. If you would like to be a part of our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing and how you can help, please sign up for more information.
The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.
We will be getting more
information our to the neighborhood here and on the RHA & RCSD websites in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
High Temperatures This
Weekend
|
With temperatures rising this weekend, be aware of the dangers of high temperatures and take steps to safeguard yourself and those around you.
Temperatures in many inland Orange County communities are expected to reach high temperatures near 100 degrees on Sunday, 6/19, and most of inland Orange County is predicted to hit the 100 degree mark Monday, 6/20, increasing the risk of heat related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke for those who are more sensitive
to heat.
Prolonged exposure to excessive temperatures may cause serious conditions like heat exhaustion or heat stroke and can even be fatal. Symptoms of heat exhaustion may include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache, nausea or vomiting and dizziness. Warning signs of heat stroke may include an extremely high body temperature, unconsciousness, confusion, hot and dry skin (no sweating), a
rapid, strong pulse, and a throbbing headache. If symptoms of heat stroke occur, immediately call for medical assistance. Move the person to a shady area and begin cooling their body with water.
Recommended precautions to prevent heat related illnesses include: - Drink plenty of water; don’t wait until you are
thirsty.
- Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
- Stay out of the sun if possible, and when in the sun wear a hat, preferably with a wide brim, and use sunscreen.
- Avoid strenuous activities if you are outside or in non-air
conditioned buildings. If you are working outdoors, take frequent rest and refreshment breaks in a shaded area.
- Never leave children, elderly people or pets unattended in closed cars or other vehicles.
- Check on those who are at high risk to make sure they are staying cool – including seniors who live alone,
people with heart or lung disease, and young children.
- Stay cool indoors – if your home is not air conditioned, visit public facilities such as shopping malls and libraries to stay cool.
For more information on heat related illnesses, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Rossmoor is home to just over 10,500 residents and many of us have dogs as part of our family. If you take a stroll around the neighborhood in the early morning or evening, you’ll see a
good number of these pet owners with the dogs moving around the streets of Rossmoor. It’s great activity for the owners and dog alike.
Just remember if you are one of these dog walkers, please use your leash even if your dog is "friendly" not every other person you see knows that and it is the law as well. And it’s up to you as well to respect Rossmoor by curbing your pooch (cleaning up after them). We all thank
you.
Every once and a while a dog will get loose and run around unaccompanied. If you see a dog on the loose, please lend a hand. Even if you don’t have the time or inclination to help catch the wayward pet, by letting us know here on our RHA pet management page you can alert our Emily Knell and network of volunteers to
help find the pooch. And, it it’s your pet that is lost, please contact us as well.

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meeting at
Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you
out. It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least
extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.
