Hi
As we move toward the end of summer, last minute vacations and excursions, and the starting of school (Weaver started last week, the rest of the district will
start on Wednesday 8/31), please be observant.
Most importantly, look for strange vehicles and people who seem out of place. If you have any question about something you're seeing, the OC Sheriff's Department encourages you to call them (714.647.7000) and report what you see. We are our first line of defense, please call the Sheriff's Department so they can help.
2017 High School StudentsLocal high school students are getting a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a prosecutor, defense attorney, police detective, and judge during the 17th annual Summer Youth Education Conference. This weeklong program includes 35 to 40 hours of hands-on activities, culminating in a mock trial and a graduation ceremony on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.
If you know of a local high school student who
will be between 16-18 years old in August 2017, please share the details in the article below so they can apply for next summer's program.
Mosquitoes & West Nile Virus Cases Rise
The Orange County Vector Control District has released the followin statement:
The number of adult mosquitoes that have tested
positive for West Nile virus in 2016 has more than doubled in the past seven days, bringing the total to 113 samples collected in 22 Orange County cities
And cautions Orange County residents to take percautions to prevent getting bites. You can get the details along with a map of the West Nile infected mosquito collection locations on the RHA website.
CHP Community Service Survey
The CHP is conducting a Community Service Survey to help them adjust their service to the people of California. This is the first public survey of this kind they have done. As you likely know, Rossmoor is an unincorporated area in Orange County. As such the CHP has traffic enforcement responsibilities in Rossmoor. This may be an opportunity to provide the CHP your opinion on how well they are
meeting their responsibilities when it comes to traffic and enforcement in Rossmoor. You can take the survey here, and click on the "Your opinion Matters" ribbon on the site.

Rossmoor Resident Wes Tanaka discovered a cluster of these Green Fig Beetles on his mulberry and was concerned for the tree's safety.

The number of coyote sightings in Rossmoor increasing. Please be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
The RCSD,
RHA, and Supervisor Steel along with our state and county public safety agencies have developed a Wildlife Watch plan for Rossmoor. We held a team meeting last week to discuss reporting and our next steps. If you would like to be a part of our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing and how you can help, please sign up for more information.
The coyote challenge
we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.
The photo below of a
coyote walking the fence line was recently taken at 8:00 AM in College Park East. It's a great example of how agile coyotes are and why feeding your small pets unsupervised, outside in your backyard is not a safe practice.

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meeting at
Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you
out. It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least
extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.
