[rha] Rossmoor Recycels. State of the LAUSD & ShakeOut

Published: Wed, 09/21/16

Hi

As the traffic patterns and morning routines have begin to settle in again, just a quick reminder that Sheriff Deputies and CHP Officers are monitoring and enforcing both speed and parking throughout Rossmoor, especially around our schools. Key points: SLOW DOWN and BE ALERT!

At the last RCSD meeting (9/13), Los Alamitos Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Sherry Kropp and Board of Education member Dr. Jeff Barke presented a brief state of the district update and discussed some of the traffic mitigation efforts they have implemented for this year. The report is well worth watching and begins at about the 12:30 mark in the RCSD meeting video.

Auto Break-Ins
There has been a sharp increase in the number of reported auto burglaries in Rossmoor over the past few weeks. The primary targets have been tools, items visible in vehicles and vehicles with unlocked doors. This latest increase has primarily been in the south part of our neighborhood, but can happen anywhere.

Please make sure to LOCK YOUR VEHICLES and remove any items of interest from view. This helps discourage these types of crimes. Also, please report any crimes like these AND anyone you think looks out of place or suspicious to the Sheriff's Department so they can investigate. This is their request, so you are not bothering them. They want to help us keep Rossmoor safe.

Help is just a simple & quick phone call away: 714.647.7000.

Participating is a great way for your family or organization to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes– wherever you live, work, or travel. ShakeOut is also a major activity of America's PrepareAthon!

ShakeOut has succeeded in preparing communities just like ours all around the world, simply because someone told another someone about it.

Whether you do that on social media, through email, by calling a friend, visiting a neighbor, or leaving a note on a co-worker's desk, you are getting the word out there and helping to build a safer world!

We have some quick get ready videos on our site for your viewing pleasure.

Rossmoor Wildlife Watch
Coyotes in Rossmoor

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have been fluctuating over the past month and we have not had any pet losses reported. Thank you for your reports and the steps you've taken to make Rossmoor a less desirable place for coyotes to frequent.

Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).

Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program is continuing to collect reports and monitoring coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please do continue to report any coyote activity on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.

If you would like to find out more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please
sign up for more information.

Please report all coyote sightings here: RossmoorWildlife.org/report

The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

RHA Membership

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

And while these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $25 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.

You'll be supporting the RHA and its many efforts to keep Rossmoor the great place to live it is today. Join or renew today!
