[rha] Traffic Study & Building Proposal Updates

Published: Mon, 01/09/17

Hi

Good day neighbor.

The week started out with some rain. It does look like this year's storms have brought more rain to the Southland than we received all last year when it was supposed to be super wet. Ah, such is life. I can say, yards and plants in the neighborhood are looking much greener.

Traffic Study Report & Update
On Tuesday January 10 at 7:00 pm, the RCSD meeting will have a presentation by Deepthi Arabolu from the County Traffic Engineering Department on the Rossmoor Traffic study that was finally delivered to the RCSD, RHA, and LAUSD in late October.

If you want to know more about the traffic study or have questions, please plan to attend the RCSD meeting at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow evening at Rush Park.

The 605 Village Project
The 605 Village Project which has been working its way through the approval process in Los Alamitos. This project will build a strip mall with Whole Food’s Market 365 as one of the anchor stores. The project is located on the former GTE/ SuperPages grounds on the north side of Katella between the 605 North Freeway on ramp  and Oak Street and south of the Oak Middle School fields.

The City Planning Commission approved the project and there was an appeal filed by a Seal Beach resident citing that the traffic and the signage impacts from the project have not been properly addressed.

A number of residents of Rossmoor and adjacent communities have expressed concern regarding the traffic impacts this project will create on Katella. Also of concern is the shopping center’s high pylon sign potential for glare shining onto the north section of Rossmoor.

UPDATE: The issue will be addressed at SPECIAL MEETING of the Los Alamitos City Council meeting on MONDAY JANUARY 30th at 6:00 p.m. in th eLos Al Council Chmbers. Please attend and voice any opinions or concerns you may have about this project.

LA Fitness Health Club @ The Shops
Yes, our friends at the Shops at Rossmoor and LA Fitness have resubmitted essentially the same proposal that was withdrawn last fall.

Please get the details and comment if you wish prior to the January 30 public comment deadline. More details and links here on the RHA site

RHA Membership Drive Assistance
Join Today!
As you know, the 2017 RHA membership drive has begun and you may have already received your renewal materials in the mail. You can also join or renew right now by clicking here.

We need three volunteers to help process the mail and post the information in the membership roll.  This year we are conducting an all-resident community survey with the membership application process.

  1. One volunteer will open the incoming envelopes and sort the contents:  application forms, survey forms, and payment checks.  The applications get sorted into alphabetical order by address and delivered to the membership roll data input volunteer.  The survey forms are gathered and delivered to the survey data compiler volunteer.  Payment checks are delivered to the RHA Treasurer.

  2. One volunteer will enter the application data into the Membership roll.  It is an Excel spreadsheet.  This person must be touch-type proficient to perform this task in a timely manner.

  3. One volunteer will compile the survey data in an Excel spreadsheet.  Typing skill for this task is not too demanding since the data is mainly tabulation of numbers and yes/no answers to the survey questions.
Please reply by email to our membership chair:

Everett W. Knell
Director & Membership Chairman
Rossmoor Homeowners Association

Oh, can you do us a favor?

Please renew your membership now and consider helping your all-volunteer, member supported RHA out by contacting Everett and let him know you're willing to lend a hand.

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

NEW WALK ADDED!
Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. at Rush Park, there is a new group of walkers. Plan to join them next Thursday to walk and talk

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Rossmoor Wildlife Watch
Coyotes in Rossmoor

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased over the past couple of months. This decrease is typical for the time of year. Unfortunately, it does not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.

For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.

Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).

Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program is continuing to collect reports and monitoring coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.

If you would like to find out more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please
sign up for more information.

Please report all coyote sightings here: RossmoorWildlife.org/report

The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.

RHA Membership

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

And while these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $30 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.

You'll be supporting the RHA and its many efforts to keep Rossmoor the great place to live it is today. Join or renew today!
