[rha] Wet & Windy Weekend Ahead - Be Prepared

Published: Thu, 02/16/17

Hi

Yes, I did use the the Boy Scout motto there. And it really does apply to us this weekend.

The forecasts are for THREE or more inches of rain, most of it coming on Friday.

We are already under a major storm and high wind warning from the National Weather Service, stating

"Winds will increase and become unusually strong out ahead of this storm. This will bring a period of damaging winds to the area, with the highest impact time being from 2 PM to Midnight on Friday. Damaging southerly winds are expected Friday through Friday night. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph is expected from the coast to the valleys..."

Please plan ahead - Heavy Rain and high winds will be amplified with our already soaked ground. Heavy winds and rain will start  as early as tonight.

Be Prepared.

  1. If you had water issues over the past month, plan for a repeat of them.

  2. Clear your exterior drains and flows.

  3. Sandbag if needed. Here's how to place your sandbags (courtesy of West County CERT)

  4. Secure and outdoor items that may blow in the wind.

  5. DON'T park under large trees.

Be safe. Use common sense. Stay dry.

LA Fitness Health Club @ The Shops

The Shops at Rossmoor and LA Fitness have resubmitted essentially the same proposal that was withdrawn last fall to build a 37,000 square foot facility in the parking lot behind Sprouts.

While the idea of a gym may be okay, the impacts on Rossmoor and Seal Beach residents or live in and around the proposed project have not be adequately considered according to the letter sent to the Seal Beach Planning Commission. The full letter is here on our website.

Coalition Against LA Fitness Project
The non-profit Coalition Against LA Fitness (CALAF) is raising funds to help represent the Rossmoor and Seal Beach residents and shoppers who frequent the Shops to be heard. To find out how you can help support CALAF, please see their website, Facebook group and Go Fund Me page.

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk  meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

NEW WALK ADDED!
Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. at Rush Park, there is a new group of walkers. Plan to join them next Thursday to walk and talk

The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park.

If you have questions, please email Bernie (BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Rossmoor Wildlife Watch
Coyotes in Rossmoor

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased over the past couple of months. This decrease is typical for the time of year. Unfortunately, it does not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.

For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.

Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).

Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program is continuing to collect reports and monitoring coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.

If you would like to find out more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please
sign up for more information.

Please report all coyote sightings here: RossmoorWildlife.org/report

The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.

RHA Membership

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

And while these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $30 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.

You'll be supporting the RHA and its many efforts to keep Rossmoor the great place to live it is today. Join or renew today!

Rossmoor Recycles: Saturday 2/25

Our next monthly Rossmoor Recycles Drive is on Saturday, February 25. Please bring your recyclable newspapers, mixed paper waste, recyclable cans, and plastic bottles to Rush Park.

You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!

Locally owned The File Depot will be in the parking lot at Rush Park to take your boxes for a Rossmoor Special of just $6 per banker sized box or if you have other sized boxes, bags or containers, the cost is just 24 cents a pound.

We’ll see you there!
