Hope you've had a terrific week. As the school year comes to a close in the next month and the temperatures start to reach for their summer highs, we need to stay alert to both potential criminal activity
and safety on our streets.
Please read the public safety announcement from the Sheriff's Department below and on our site. It's important to be watchful of who is in and around our homes, especially with summer travel and warm temperatures providing more opportunities for theft and break-ins.
As for our streets, we all seem to be a bit more distracted and busy at this time of year. For the sake of our kids on foot and on bikes, please slow down
and be focused on your driving.

Rossmoor Community Festival Our Rossmoor Community Festival on Sunday was great. Even though the skies were threatening most of the day, save a few
sprinkles, we stayed dry and cool for the entire event. heck out the recap below and also on the Festival website, where we've stashed dozens of photos from the event too.
Sweeper Monday
Once again it is that time. Please remove all vehicles and trash cans from Rossmoor streets so the street sweeper can clean up from last weekend's storm and disrupt any mosquito pools that may be standing in the
gutters.

Sargent Feely of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department recommends the following practices to keep Rossmoor residents and their property safe:
Knock, Knock Burglaries Recent reports have been received from residents about strangers knocking on their doors both during the day and well into the evening.
To protect your family and property, when an unexpected knock occurs at your door, do not open your door. Rather, keep the door closed and locked, ask who the person is, and what they want. Make note of what they say and decline their offer or service. Do not open your door to a stranger. Burglars use this “knock,
knock…who’s there?” technique to gain entry to homes, scope out home occupancy, or evaluate content value.
Remember, if you have a suspicious encounter, immediately contact OCSD at 714.647.7000 and provide the individual’s direction and mode of travel, individual’s physical description (from head to toe, clothing coloring and style is important), and time and location that the incident occurred.
Lock It, Hide It, Keep It Keep your car doors locked at all times when parked in your driveway or on the street. Many cars in Rossmoor that are broken into have been unlocked. Also, remove items from your car or place them out of view in your trunk for safe keeping. Thieves go down streets and check cars parked both on the street and in driveways to see if they are locked. If the car is locked, they will typically move on to an unlocked
car.
Catalytic Converter Theft Stolen catalytic converters, particularly from Toyota trucks and other models, have been increasing. Law enforcement recommends parking in your garage to prevent this type of theft. If you must park in your driveway or on the street, add motion detection lights
or continuous lights illuminating your property as a deterrent. If you have a vehicle with an easily accessible and highly desirable catalytic converter, get your catalytic converter etched with your vehicle license plate number by your vehicle service provider.

Rossmoor Community Festival Recap

Though the skies were threatening most of the day, the 2017 Rossmoor Community Festival was a big hit. Based on feedback from last year's Festival, we had a much wider variety of food options that included both food trucks and booths. Tacos, burgers, burritos, chili fries, piping hot pizza, hot dogs, and (hot) tamales were all readily available. For those with a craving for sweets, there was Italian
Ice, donuts, and kettle corn. A real food lover's event.
Beyond the food there was a lot of fun. Kids coloring, plenty of carnival games, a climbing mountain, a slide and bungee swing along with the youngster favorite train ride.
Our sponsors were once again terrific. Title sponsor Optum Care had a very busy booth all day with people stopping in to
find out more about their local healthcare options. We want to again thank all of our sponsors including Volterra Dental, Alpine Mortgage, Home Helpers, Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary, Print Masters, Braithwaite Chiropractic, Lice Centers of America Los Alamitos, and our terrific media sponsors the online Orange County Breeze along with the News Enterprise and Sun Newspapers.
The RCSD Staff and our volunteers did a tremendous job of getting things set up and taken

The Shops at Rossmoor and LA Fitness have resubmitted essentially the same proposal that was withdrawn last fall to build a 37,000 square foot facility in the parking lot behind Sprouts.
At this point in the process, the
most important thing you can do is to SHOW UP at both Seal Beach Planning Commission and City Council meetings to express your opinions on the project.
The health club is expected to be operating from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on and
Sunday.
Coalition Against LA Fitness Project The non-profit Coalition Against LA Fitness (CALAF) is raising funds to help represent the Rossmoor and Seal Beach residents and shoppers who frequent the Shops to be heard. To find out how you can help

bottles to Rush Park.
You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!

Depot will be in the parking lot at Rush Park to take your boxes for a Rossmoor Special of just $6 per banker sized box or if you have other sized boxes, bags or containers, the cost is just 24 cents a pound.

Are You Breeding Mosquitoes in Your
Yard? |
After our rain this winter or even after you run your sprinklers, your yard could have new and potentially hazardous breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes breed in standing water – as little as a bottle cap full will do. Anything that will hold water can for 5-7 days can become a breeding ground.
In fact, according to the Orange County Vector Control, about half of all mosquitoes in Orange County come from
residential yards. Do you have a tarp that collects water in the folds? That’s a favorite breeding ground. so are buckets, pails, old fountains, ponds, boats, car and boat covers, old tires, cans, boxes and bottle caps. Seriously, anything that can hold water is a potential breeding ground.
Be a good neighbor and check your yard with using this
simple checklist!!

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk &
Talk meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
NEW WALK ADDED! Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. at Rush Park, there is a new group of
walkers. Plan to join them next Thursday to walk and talk
The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out. It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really
great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased over the past couple of months. This decrease is typical for the time of year. Unfortunately, it does not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of
you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and NO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program is continuing to collect reports and monitoring coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the
Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.
