Hi
Wow what a great night at the Park. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this year's Concert and Movies series so great. So much fun.
As most of you know the I-405 improvement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The 405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take place as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the
bridge work along the project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact
Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and ealry morning hours, you may want to check for closures on the OCTA website.
Don't Get Eclipsed by a Ticket. Monday is not only Sweeper Monday here in Rossmoor, it's also the best eclipse the U.S. will see for a few good years. Please move your vehicles from the street well before the eclipse starts so the streets will be clean AND you won't get a ticket.
Speaking of the
Eclipse
In Rossmoor, we will have about a 61% obscuration of the sun on Monday (8/21) at about 10:20 a.m. I'm sure there are a number of astronomers here that can refine those numbers, but for the rest of us, this will be close enough. You can see the eclipse map here
The eclipse will begin (initial contact) at about 9:05 a.m. and end about 11:45 a.m. It looks like the clouds will cooperate and we should have a good day to watch.
If you do go outside to see the eclipse, do not look at the sun/eclipse without proper eye protection. You will cause eye damage.
Back to School (Most of the note below is from our own Orange County Sheriff’s Department Crime Prevention Specialist Anitu Pattanaik.)
It’s back to school time again
(Weaver started two weeks ago). I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. With the increase in traffic, school time can be challenging for drivers and pedestrians trying to get to and from school. Pedestrians, please remember to look both ways and always use a crosswalk when crossing the street.
Drivers, please slow down for school zones and watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists. When driving within 500 to 1000 feet of a school while children are outside or crossing the street, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted (and it’s ALWAYS 25 mph on most all Rossmoor streets, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – and speed enforcement is happening in
Rossmoor).
Always drive slowly and carefully near schools, playgrounds, parks, and residential areas because children may suddenly run into the street. Also, many children have not yet developed the ability to judge speeds and distances well enough to cross streets safely when cars are moving fast.
School Buses Look out for stopped school buses. Some school buses flash yellow lights when preparing to stop to let the children out. The yellow flashing lights warn you to slow down and prepare to stop. When the bus flashes red lights, you must stop from either direction until the children are safely across the street and the lights stop flashing. The law requires
you to remain stopped as long as the red lights are flashing (CVC 22454). If you fail to stop, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your driving privilege could be suspended for 1 year. If the school bus is on the other side of a divided or multilane highway, you do not need to stop (the only street in Rossmoor that qualifies as divided is Rossmoor Way).
Upcoming Dates to Note We have a number of events coming up that you will want to put on your calendar. Check them out: - Sweeper Monday - Monday 8/21 - Remember: Move your
vehicles!
- Rossmoor Recycles - Saturday 8/26 - Rush Park, please bring your newspapers, mixed paper, cans and plastic bottles.
- RCSD Board Meeting - Tuesday 9/12 - 7:00 p.m. Rush Park Aud.
- RHA Board Meeting - Tuesday 9/19 - 7:00 p.m. Rossmoor Park
And of course, the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk each Tuesday morning, that it is not raining, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Rush Park. A second walking group meets on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. also at Rush
Park.

The developer for the LA Fitness project has appealed the Seal Beach Planning Commission's denial of the conditional use permit to the City Council.
The best estimate for when the Seal Beach City Council will hear the appeal is at their Monday 9/11
meeting. More details will follow.
What you can do now is to write to the Seal Beach City Council members and express your thoughts, support and or concerns for the project. It's important for them to know what impacts their decision will have on your life, and the impacts on Rossmoor. Please do share with them. Coalition Against LA Fitness Project The non-profit Coalition Against LA Fitness (CALAF) is raising funds to help represent the Rossmoor and Seal Beach residents and shoppers who frequent the Shops to be heard. To find out how you can help support CALAF, please see their website, Facebook group and Go Fund Me

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinates the weekly Rossmoor Walk &
Talk meeting at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30. That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
NEW WALK ADDED! Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. at Rush Park, there is a new group of
walkers. Plan to join them next Thursday to walk and talk
The program is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie will be happy to help you out. It's a real Win-Win Bernie's idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really
great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Rush Park. If you have questions, please email Bernie
(BernieB_90720@yahoo.com), or come see him on Tuesdays at 10:30 at Rush Park. Bernie will be the energetic guy with glasses, short hair, long in years and walking slowly.

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does
not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please
continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our
Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.
If you would like to find out
more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please sign up for more information.
The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not
"them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.
