[rha] Winter Festival Friday Night - Christmas Lights - New Rossmoor T-Shirts

Published: Thu, 12/07/17

Hi

With the warm days and strong and drying Santa Ana winds whipping Rossmoor and all of Southern California, we hold those who have suffered from the still burning wildfires in our thoughts and prayers. It's been devastating: the Thomas Fire in Ventura County burning nearly 100,000 acres, (for scale: that's bigger than Washington D.C. or the Denver Metro area) and turning more than 100 single family homes into ash.

We have a lot to be thankful for here in Rossmoor, including SNOW IN ROSSMOOR - Yes, even though we will be in the upper 70's on Friday, there will be snow at the The Rossmoor Winter Festival!!

Rossmoor Winter Festival - (Tomorrow) Friday 12/8
Make sure you come out to the Rossmoor Winter Festival at Rush Park tomorrow evening starting at about 6:00. There will be songs, crafts, trolley tours of Christmas lights, adult beverages (beer and wine), food trucks, our annual Rossmoor Tree lighting and even snow right here in Rossmoor. Come join in the fun, grab some food and talk with your neighbors. It's a great way to enjoy your Friday evening.

For those of you who are new to the neighborhood, we have this really cool Celebration of Christmas Lights that was started 11 years ago by a team of people assembled by our own Chris Marshall who as served as the Team Captain ever since. You can find out more about the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration, including photos of award winners from past years, here on our site

So, each year Chris sends out an invitation to join in the Celebration to all the "Crazy Home Decorators" in the tract. This year is no exception, so here's an excerpt of the note he sent out last week:

Hello Rossmoor Christmas Lights Crazy Home Decorators,

Yes it's Sunday evening and I’m both tired and sore from stringing up Christmas lights and ground decorations the past three days. It actually starts Thursday afternoon at our homestead with my wife making me go outside to keep away from the kitchen on Thanksgiving.

In addition to looking forward to some sleep, I’m also so thrilled it's that time of year again!!! Christmas lights and thanking you for making the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration such a success over the past 10 years. We are now entering our 11th year, and I’m honored to be heading into a new decade together with you. Think of all the happy faces we’ve inspired with all the families driving by!

I’m also introducing Kieran Nolan, joining me this year as co-chair of the Celebration. He and his wife Carrie have been decorating their house on Martha Ann for a while now, and have been honored with a Recognition Award a few years back. Kieran will be joining me to organize the event and create the Rossmoor Hot Spots Map, which families tell me they so look forward to seeing the homes every year!

Would love to have you participate again this year. Because of the care and fun you put into decorating your homes, it’s why families get so excited to check out the lights in our neighborhood. Please participate again by signing up on the RHA website or calling me at (562) 370-3050.

So without further ado, if you decorate you home for the holidays with lights etc, please do enter it in this year's Celebration.

  • Saturday Dec 16 - The judges will stop by all entered homes

I-405 Improvement Project
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take place as well.

The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may want to check for closures on the OCTA website.

We will provide updates here as they become available.

Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less than 3 riders.

LA Seismic Project Restarts in Jaunary
LA Seismic Survey

LA Seismic will restart their survey project in Rossmoor after the first of the year.

Once the project restarts the surveying and pre-digging for future placement of sensors in parkways. The work will take place during regular working hours.

Questions and concerns may be directed to LA Seismic, LLC, Tracy L. Farmer via his cell: 562-208-2922 or Email: tfarmer@laseismic.com.

The LA Seismic website is located here. You can review their presentation slides here from the 9/12 RCSD meeting here or watch Mr. Farmer's  presentation here (Mr. Farmer's presentation begins at about the 2 minute mark and lasts about 25 minutes).

Rossmoor Walk & Talk

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinate the weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meet ups at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AND...
Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.

Both meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.

The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie or Herb will be happy to help you out.

It's a real Win-Win
This great idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.

Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages.

The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM
AND every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. both at Rush Park.

Rossmoor Wildlife Watch
Coyotes in Rossmoor

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.

For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.

Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).

Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.

If you would like to find out more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please
sign up for more information.

Please report any coyote sightings here: RossmoorWildlife.org/report

The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.

RHA Membership
Because Rossmoor Matters

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

What costs?

Great question, glad you asked.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association:

And while these costs are not great, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to join or renew your membership with the RHA. And at $30 per household, it's a steal. Just hop on over to the RHA website and fill in your information.

You'll be supporting the RHA and its many efforts to keep Rossmoor the great place to live it is today. Join or renew today!
