Our crazy, yet mild weather continues, with a good chance of snow in our local mountains this weekend while we have mild mid-60 degree weather here in
Rossmoor.
We are fortunate to be able to get outdoors almost all year long. Let's take advantage of this blessing and say "hi" to our neighbors. It's always nice to know who lives near by.

Rossmoor Recycles & Free Shredding
Rossmoor Recycles is THIS SATURDAY (1/20) at Rush Park.
Yes, this is a week earlier than normal, but the times are the same from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Please bring your recyclables to Rush Park and support the Rossmoor community.
Do you have old tax forms and supporting paperwork you need to dispose of? How about those boxes of bank and financial statements cluttering up your garage or attic? Your in luck - this Saturday
The File Depot is providing FREE Secure Paper & Document Shredding
for the residents of College Park East, Rossmoor, Seal Beach and ALL of the surrounding neighborhoods. EVERYONE IS WELCOME - the more the merrier!
Sweeper Saga - Mea copa It seems most everyone in Rossmoor wants the same thing, to "know" when and if the sweepers will be in Rossmoor. We all know the rules (first and third Mondays every month), except when we don't, and it seems in our (the RHA) efforts to "help" we just add to
the confusion. When public service isn't, it's best to stop it and apologize.
To be clear, the RCSD is the single authority for the sweeper
contract in Rossmoor - it is in their charter.
As such, we (the RHA) apologize for the confusion and frustration we have apparently caused. We will also stop trying to help Rossmoor residents by reminding them to move their vehicles so the sweepers can sweep and the residents can avoid getting a
ticket.
This way there will be just one voice/source of street sweeping information: the RCSD.
If you have sweeper schedule questions, please call
the RCSD. If your street does not get swept on any given week that you think it should have been swept, again please call the RCSD at 562.430.3707.
Los Al Band & London's New Year's Day Parade If you hadn't heard,
our own Los Alamitos Griffin Marching Band performed in the London New Year's Parade on the first. If you want to catch the band highlights from the parade, we have them for you here. This

CERT Basic Training - In March - It's Fun & Free to Attend
It's been 24 years since the last "big quake" hit Southern California. Yes, if you are over 30 you may recall the 6.7 magnitude Northridge Earthquake. This is the longest time between damaging quakes in Southern California in the last 150 years. How long can this continue? Are you ready?
We talk about the “next big one” from time to time, and since we have not had a big earthquake in recent memory (as in the last month or two), we tend to ignore doing anything about getting ready for it, or even pausing long enough to consider what may happen when the big one does happen.
It’s not your fault.
You’re human and busy living your life.
But…What if…
The big one hits early one morning and in the aftermath, you and your family are all safe at home. Whew, dodged that bullet. Right?
But, did you?
The roads are a mess and our local stores are out of supplies like food and water. There are no emergency services available. And they won't be for 7-10 DAYS. What now?
What will you and your family eat? Will you have enough
water to drink? Will you be able to keep warm?
Find out at the free CERT Basic Training on March 16 & 17 and March 23 & 24 at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. It’s nearby, free, a lot of fun, and could just help you and your family
know what to do to survive when the big one hits. And it’s just a matter of time before it does.

Please continue to reach to to your neighbors, get to know them, and work together to watch your block for anything that is different or out of the ordinary.
If
you see anything that's suspicious, call the OCSD 714.647.7000 - and if you see what you think may be a crime in progress, call 911.
Remember, Be Smart: Vehicles: Being smart means locking your vehicle doors, keeping the windows rolled up, and not keeping valuables in the car - especially in sight.
Home: Being smart means locking your doors, even if you are leaving for just a minute, locking the
gate access to your back yard, and closing the house windows.
And Be Observant: Look for suspicious activities on your street and around the neighborhood like slow moving vehicles that seem out of place, people sitting in parked or
stopped cars, things that seem out of place or odd. Your primary responsibility is for your house and your immediate neighbors (next door and across the street) and then your block.
We are still all in this together, even if you don't want to be. You live here, you are in. It's up to all of us to be observant and report
things.

LA Seismic Project Update |
LA Seismic will commence with the deployment of the actual sensors this week throughout the entirety of the seismic project area.
This phase of the project should last about 3 weeks throughout the whole project area. The plan is to have the vibroseis trucks on the streets, commencing January 24, 2018 for about 3 weeks until the entire route is complete.
LA Seismic will generate a daily schedule of the truck route completed for the day, as well as the route for the following day. This information will be displayed on the project website.

I-405 Improvement Project |
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take place
as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may
want to check for closures on the OCTA
website.
We will provide updates here as they become available.
Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less
than 3 riders.

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinate the weekly Rossmoor Walk &
Talk meet ups at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AND... Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.
Both meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie or Herb will be happy to help you
out. It's a real Win-Win This great idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend
your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM AND every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. both at Rush Park. |

You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!
Time To Shred - Since you are getting all those tax documents together for your 2017 tax filings, you are sure to have some old documents you need to have shredded. We have a solution for this month (January) the File Depot will be at Rossmoor Recycles to take
that shredding off your to do list. And it's free. Stop by and unload those documents!
Note: Paper shredding is only available quarterly (Oct, Jan, Apr, and July)

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does
not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within
your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors
coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.
