Hi
This week looks to be much cooler - almost winter like - at least for Southern California, with highs in the upper 50's and lower 60's.
The potentially more concerning issue is that on Monday and Tuesday mornings the temperatures could dip to the mid 30's. With the buds and flowers on fruit trees already forming, this may cause them to drop. If you have fruit trees or plants, you may want to take some precautions.
This from the Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB):
UPCOMING ARMY AVIATION TRAINING EXERCISES TO INCLUDE NIGHT OPERATIONS AT LOS ALAMITOS ARMY
AIRFIELD The Joint Forces Training Base will be hosting a visiting U.S. Army aviation unit that will be conduct training exercises and night flight operations at Los Alamitos Army Airfield (LAAAF) from Feb.19 through March 1.
The exercises are designed to maintain
overall operational readiness and proficiency of the aviators and support personnel and will include periods of increased air traffic.
Residents living near Joint Forces Training Base may hear aircraft arriving and departing outside of normal airfield operating hours and increased aircraft noise during the hours of darkness throughout the training period.
Efforts will be taken to
minimize inconvenience to our neighbors during evening hours.

RHA Board meeting.
If you have any code enforcement type questions or just want to know more about how the OC Code Enforcement process works here in Rossmoor, please plan to attend.
Our meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday 2/20 in the Community Room at Rossmoor

Free Ham Radio Course - In March
On Saturdays March 10, 17, and 24 there is a free Ham Radio Class that is sponsored by the LDS Emergency Response Unit. The classes will be held
at the Orange Stake Center (674 South Yorba Street, Orange) and will run from 8:30 to 2:30 each day and cover about 1/3 of the study guide each class.
There has been a fair amount of interest in Ham Radios from people in Rossmoor who either want to learn about Ham Radios, or recognize that Ham Radios will be a critical communication method when cell and land lines fail.
So, if studying for your Ham Radio Technician's License in a free classroom setting is good for you, you may want to plan to attend. To register and get the additional details, please email Bill Burbridge at W6VKO@ARRL.NET

Neighborhood Watch Updates |
Rossmoor Weekly Crime Reports
Weekly crime reports for the Rossmoor community
are posted on the RHA website. Click here for this week's report and other information.
Please continue to reach to to your neighbors,
get to know them, and work together to watch your block for anything that is different or out of the ordinary.
If you see anything that's suspicious, call the OCSD 714.647.7000 - and if you see what you think may be a crime in progress, call
911.
Remember, Be Smart: Vehicles: Being smart means locking your vehicle doors, keeping the windows rolled up, and not keeping valuables in the car -
especially in sight.
Home: Being smart means locking your doors, even if you are leaving for just a minute, locking the gate access to your back yard, and closing the house windows.
And Be
Observant: Look for suspicious activities on your street and around the neighborhood like slow moving vehicles that seem out of place, people sitting in parked or stopped cars, things that seem out of place or odd. Your primary responsibility is for your house and your immediate neighbors (next door and across the street) and then your block.
We are still all in this together, even if you don't want to be. You live here, you are in. It's up to all of us to be observant and report things.

More on Rossmoor Neighborhood Watch |
Years ago, most Rossmoor students rode their bikes or walked to school. Adults and kids biked or walked to our local restaurants, movie theater, bowling alley, shopping, beauty shops and medical offices.
In our flat and
secluded community, the Rossmoor Bike Group aims to reclaim our wonderful tree-lined streets for pedestrian activities.
JOIN US FOR LOOPS:
Monday-Friday 7:30am-9:30am 5.5 mile counterclockwise loop (see map below) Monday-Friday 2:30pm-4:30pm 4 mile clockwise loop (see map here) These times match the parking restrictions on Foster Road for a safe route. Almost all turns are Right Hand and Stop Signs are at a minimum. Join a loop at any time from any location and meet others along the way.
This is a perfect way to make friends who ride like you, escort students to school, and set up an exercise regimen. This is informal so you can make detours or coffee stops whenever you want.
JOIN US FOR GROUP RIDES:
Monday February 19, 10:00am -
Rush Park to Seal Beach
Future group rides will go to El Dorado Park, Town Center and Long Beach. Safety check and rules of the road will be covered before each ride. Helmets mandatory for kids and suggested for adults.
I hope to see and meet many of you peddling
around. I will be the one with the bright pink helmet and talking a lot.
Excitedly,
Nia Hartman (562.233.4455, Rossmoor Resident, Licensed Cycling Instructor, President of Lightning Velo
Cycling Club)

I-405 Improvement Project |
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take place
as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may
want to check for closures on the OCTA
website.
We will provide updates here as they become available.
Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less
than 3 riders.

Rossmoor residents Bernie Beskind & Herb Halling coordinate the weekly Rossmoor Walk &
Talk meet ups at Rush Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AND... Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.
Both meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you need a topic to talk about, Bernie or Herb will be happy to help you
out. It's a real Win-Win This great idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend
your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. Come join us! The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM AND every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. both at Rush Park.

all those tax documents together for your 2017 tax filings, you are sure to have some old documents you need to have shredded. We have a solution for this month (January) the File Depot will be at Rossmoor Recycles to take that shredding off your to do list. And it's free. Stop by and unload those documents!
Note: Paper shredding is only available quarterly (Oct, Jan, Apr,
and July)
We’ll see you there!

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does
not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within
your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors
coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.
If you would like to find out more about our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program and discover what we are doing, please sign up for more information.
The coyote challenge we face here in Rossmoor and throughout Southern California does not have a magical "fix it" solution. It will take a community effort (that's you and me, not "them") to keep our pets safe and reduce the risks in our neighborhood. Please learn what you can do at your home and for everyone in Rossmoor.
Rossmoor. A great place to live since 1957
