Wow, we have a lot going on in the coming weeks!
And it looks like we have a warm up coming the first part of
this week and then we will get back to our more fall-like weather again.
If you missed it, the Dodgers came back in dramatic fashion to split the pair of games in Milwaukee and now come back home to play three games at Dodger Stadium starting tomorrow. It's been a great series so far and it still likely to go the full seven games.
Remember this month is free paper shredding at Rossmoor Recycles on 10/27 from 8:00 to noon at Rush Park. There are also drug take back events at both the Rossmoor Recycles event and at McAuliffe Middle
School. Details on both events below. And then as noted below we have the School Ghoul run on Sunday 10/28 - watch those no parking signs along Foster road.
The Great Pacific Airshow is coming up next weekend and the Thunderbirds will be based out of JFTB. This means there will be some additional flight noise (sounds of
freedom as some have said) during the week and next weekend. More details on planned flight times below.
Yes, tomorrow is Sweeper Monday. Please move your vehicles from the streets of Rossmoor to let the sweepers do their thing. With the leaves turning, this is the time of year the sweepers do the most work. Help them out by giving them a clear path to sweep.

October RHA Meeting - Dr. Kropp - LAUSD Our October 16 RHA Meeting will feature Dr. Sherry Kropp who
will provide us a State of the District update and answering your questions about the schools in Rossmoor, and Measure G - the school bond issue on the ballot in November. Please plan to attend if you have any questions for Dr. Kropp about the LAUSD or Measure G.
The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at Rossmoor Park. We are expecting a full house. If you'd like a seat, please plan to arrive before 7:00. See you there.

School Ghoul Run/Walk Sunday October 28th the School Ghoul, 5K Run/Walk, 1 Miler, and Kid’s Festival of Races will kick off at Rush Park. The event supports the Los Alamitos Unified School District by raising awareness

Prescription Drug Take Back Event |

The Orange County Sheriff's Department and DEA officials will be at Rush Park starting at 10:00 during the last half of our Rossmoor Recycles event on Saturday 10/28. If you have expired or other drugs that you would like to dispose of, please bring them to this no questions asked drop off.
Also, the Los Alamitos Unified School District and LAEF have proudly
partnered with the Los Alamitos Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration to offer a PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY for the entire community.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The drop-off location will be at McAuliffe Middle School in the parking lot off of Cerritos Ave. All expired, unused/unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications or supplements can be dropped off for appropriate disposal, no questions asked. The Great Pacific Airshow Returns to Huntington Beach, Oct. 19 – 21, 2018
What: The Great Pacific Airshow, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, will make its return to Huntington Beach, Oct. 19 – 21. This year’s
Airshow will be bigger than ever with a never before seen aircraft, military flybys and thrilling aerobatic performers. More than two million people are expected over the three-day event.

Thunderbird aircraft planned arrival at the JFTB is on Tuesday, 10/16 at 10:30 am. The Thunderbird team plans flight operations on Thursday, 10/18 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm and on Friday, 10/19 from 10:30 am - 11:30 am.
The Pacific Airshow flights will be between 11:30 am and 4:30 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct 19 through 10/21.

If you are, then we'd like to know so we can reestablish our emergency amateur radio network here in Rossmoor.
If you are not a licensed operator and are interested in becoming one, please let us know that as well. We can point you in the right direction and if there's enough interest, possibly schedule a class here in Rossmoor.
If there is enough interest, we can reestablish the Rossmoor Emergency Amateur Radio Network. If/when a major
disaster event occurs, Ham Radios may be the most effective way for us to communicate. If you are interested please let us know here..

The Orange County Registrar of Voters released the inaugural 2018 Voter Data Trends Report today with voter data spanning the years 2004 - 2018. The report is based on voter data maintained by the agency, which provides insights into the changing behaviors of Orange County's voters.
Key Facts: - There are more voters in Orange County than in 18 other U.S. states.
- Baby Boomers' participation in elections continues to increase while the Silent Generation
decreases.
- 25% of voters have only participated in 1 to 2 elections.
- No Party Preference voters make up 27% of the current registration, up 3% in less than a year.
- Voters are abandoning polling places - usage has dropped 20% on
average.
- Provisional ballots cast in 2004 was 1 in 100, now they represent 1 in 10.
Also, your vote-by-mail ballots are on their way to you and you should receive them this upcoming week.

Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Program welcomes the opportunity to work together with residents through Neighborhood Watch and Nextdoor. We are always looking to expand our Neighborhood Watch program by adding block
captains, registering homes and neighbors, or sharing information. Presently, more than half of the streets in Rossmoor have block captains - Is your street one of them? It's easy to participate either in Neighborhood Watch or as a block captain by registering
here. It is also very important for residents to share information about safety and security concerns with OC Sheriff's by calling 714.647.7000. And we ask you to register your home with our Program. If you see suspicious activity, call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 714.647.7000 and
report: • Who or what you saw • When you saw it • Where it occurred • Why it’s suspicious As always if there is an emergency, call 9-1-1. Quarterly crime/activity reports are presented by the OC Sheriffs at Rossmoor Community Services District meetings (generally each Feb., May, Aug., and Nov.) and we post these reports here for your convenience.

Our next monthly Rossmoor Recycles Drive is on Saturday, October 27th. Please bring your recyclable newspapers, mixed paper waste, recyclable cans, and plastic bottles to Rush Park.
You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!
This is a shredding month - bring anything you need to shred and The File Depot will take care of it for you. Don't be

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such
relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.
What costs?
Great question, glad you asked. The Rossmoor Homeowners Association is focused on Fun, Safety, and Communications: And while the costs for these programs are not huge, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to support our volunteer efforts by joining or renewing your membership with the RHA. And at $30 per household, it's a steal. I-405 Improvement Project |
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take
place as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may
want to check for closures on the OCTA
website.
We will provide updates here as they become available.
Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less
than 3 riders.

Rossmoor resident Herb Halling coordinates the two weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meet ups at Rush Park on
Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
AND
Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.
Both meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park 1, 2, or 3 times, and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to
them. There never seems to be a shortage of talking topics so join in the fun while you pump some blood around your body. It's a real Win-Win This great idea creates an
informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win. The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the
word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM AND every Thursday at 4:00 PM both at Rush
Park. |

Block members contribute by expanding the coverage of the Neighborhood Watch network.
The more residents who participate in the
program and are observant about their surroundings and neighborhood, the safer our community is.
All you need to do is complete the block member form and you will be added to the Neighborhood Watch network. There is no cost or obligation to you, but the benefits to you and your block could be life changing or saving.

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does
not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within
your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors
coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor Wildlife Watch website.
