After a nice wet day that saw some nice rain that washed some of the particulates out of the air, it looks like the weekend will be nice and sunny as many of us prepare for the upcoming holidays.
The holiday season is a great time here in Rossmoor. There are so many generous and kind people here in Rossmoor, the holiday spirit just overflows. Take a moment and look at all of the decorations and signs of the season that are going up every day.
The 4th Annual Rossmoor Winter Festival on Friday December 14th is just another example of the holiday spirit here. Complete with Santa, a petting zoo, crafts, and real snow right in Rush Park, the Winter Festival is a great family event. There is also a beer and wine garden and a wide variety of food trucks will cater to your dinner and snacking needs. School choirs will perform and the evening is sure to be filled with laughter and
joy. Plan to join us at Rush Park starting at 6:00 p.m.
Christmas Lights Celebration 2018
As announced in our last issue, our Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration is in full swing. It's time to register and decorate your house for all the walkers, bikers and drivers that will be enjoying your Christmas lights efforts
throughout December. More details and important dates are below...
OCSD Tip A Cop - Wednesday 12/5
Save the Date for Tip a Cop! The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a fun community event at the California Pizza Kitchen at the Shops at Rossmoor on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5 – 9 pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Special Olympics.Start your holiday cheer off right and get some great food while you're at it. Come join us.
Going Out of Town for the Holidays?
If travel is in your schedule, please consider letting the OC Sheriff's Department know by asking for a vacation check. This free service alerts the patrol units in Rossmoor to take a special look at your home to make sure it's safe. It's just another way you can help Our Rossmoor Community stay safe.
To arrange a Vacation Check, contact the OCSD directly at 714.647.7000. and follow the prompts to get to the Dispatcher (currently 1 for English, 9 for dispatcher, and 1 for dispatcher). When you connect with the dispatcher, say that you would like to request a Vacation Check. You will be asked to provide information to assist the deputy doing the patrol check of your home. Grand Hanukkah Menorah Lighting
Celebrate the First night of Hanukkah with Shul By The Shore, as Rabbi Perelmuter lights the Menorah at the Grand Hanukkah Menorah Lighting, this Sunday, December 2, 2018, at 4:00 p.m., in the parking lot of Citibank 5354 E. 2nd street in Belmont Shores. Music, Latkes, Treats, and Fun for the whole family. Come share and spread the light!

Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration

The RHA sponsored Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration is well under way with decorations going up and home registrations streaming in. Now in its 12th season, the Celebration is open to all Rossmoor homes and
it's free to participate. Just sign up before December 15th to be included on our HotSpots map.
Of course this isn’t a contest, and the amazing Christmas spirit across Rossmoor. Signing up just allows us to create the HotSpot to highlight the homes showing Christmas spirit to help everyone navigate the neighborhood and share in the excitement!
Keeping with the tradition and adding to the fun, a few homes, streets, or neighbors will receive special Recognition Awards, depending on how their decorations inspire the judges. Previous awards included the Winter Wonderland Award, the Griswold Award, or even Rookie-of-the-Year Award.
The primary goal for all participants is to Make-the-Map, with your home being identified as one of the locations for families to check out along the route.
Speaking of routes, in its third year, the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Bicycle Tour is planned for Saturday, December 22, starting at Rush Park at 6:00 p.m. So many people have already been asking about this! It’s a great fun family evening that will include bike decorating and post tour festivities. More details to follow.
A huge thanks to Chris Marshall and Kieran Nolan who co-chair the RHA Christmas Lights Celebration. Participation is completely free (well, apart from the back-breaking labor required to decorate your house, of course)!
To participate and earn a spot on the neighborhood map, simply register here before December 15th and the judges will stop by your home and we will include you on the HotSpot Map.
Here are the key dates:
- Friday, December 14: RCSD hosts the Rossmoor Winter Festival at Rush Park, featuring a Christmas Lights Trolley ride, visiting decorated Rossmoor homes.
- Saturday, December 15: Judges travel around that evening, checking out the registered homes and determining the recognition awards and homes to be included in the Hot Spots Map.
- Tuesday, December 18: Recognition Awards and Christmas Lights Hot Spots announced on the RHA's OurRossmoor.com website, and Map available for downloading.
- Saturday, December 22: Rossmoor Christmas Lights Bicycle Tour, starting at Rush Park at 6:00 p.m.
OK time to register and decorate your house for all the walkers, bikers and drivers that will be enjoying your Christmas lights efforts throughout December.

Are You A Licensed HAM Radio Operator? |
If you are, then we'd like to know so we can reestablish our emergency amateur radio network here in Rossmoor.
If you are not a licensed operator and are interested in becoming one, please let us know that as well. We can point you in the right direction and if there's enough interest, possibly schedule a class here in Rossmoor.
If there is enough interest, we can reestablish the Rossmoor Emergency Amateur Radio Network. If/when a major disaster event occurs, Ham Radios may be the most effective way for us to communicate. If you are interested please let us know here..

Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Program welcomes the opportunity to work together with residents through Neighborhood Watch and Nextdoor.
We are always looking to expand our Neighborhood Watch program by adding block captains, registering homes and neighbors, or sharing information.
Presently, more than half of the streets in Rossmoor have block captains - Is your street one of them?
It's easy to participate either in Neighborhood Watch or as a block captain by registering here.
It is also very important for residents to share information about safety and security concerns with OC Sheriff's by calling 714.647.7000. And we ask you to register your home with our Program.
If you see suspicious activity, call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 714.647.7000 and report:
• Who or what you saw
• When you saw it
• Where it occurred
• Why it’s suspicious
As always if there is an emergency, call 9-1-1.

What is Rossmoor’s Neighborhood Watch Program?
Rossmoor’s Neighborhood Watch Program is organized, funded and operated by the Rossmoor Homeowner’s Association (RHA) and has been since its beginning back in the late 1970's.
Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Committee distributes weekly crime reports to block captains and these reports are also posted on the RHA website and Nextdoor so residents are regularly notified about area incidents.
Quarterly crime/activity reports are presented by the OC Sheriffs at Rossmoor Community Services District meetings (generally each Feb., May, Aug., and Nov.) and we post these reports here for your convenience.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.

Rossmoor Recycles: Saturday 12/29
|
Our next monthly Rossmoor Recycles Drive is on Saturday, December 29th. Please bring your recyclable newspapers, mixed paper waste, recyclable cans, and plastic bottles to Rush Park.
You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!
Note: Free paper shredding is available quarterly (Oct, Jan, Apr, and July) and is provided by The File Depot in Huntington Beach

I-405 Improvement Project |
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will take
place as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected
work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may want to check for closures on the
OCTA website.
We will provide updates here as they become available.
Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less than 3 riders.

Rossmoor resident Herb Halling coordinates the two weekly Rossmoor Walk & Talk meet ups at Rush Park on
Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
AND
Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.
Both meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park 1, 2, or 3 times, and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. There never seems to be a shortage of talking topics so join in the fun while you pump some blood around your body.
It's a real Win-Win
This great idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.
The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk meets are held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM
AND every Thursday at 4:00 PM both at Rush Park.

Block members contribute by expanding the coverage of the Neighborhood Watch network.
The more residents who participate in the program and are observant about their surroundings and neighborhood, the safer our community is.
All you need to do is complete the block member form and you will be added to the Neighborhood Watch network. There is no cost or obligation to you, but the benefits to you and your block could be life changing or saving.

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced sightings/reports does
not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor
Wildlife Watch website.
