It looks like the rain will be back for the next few days. The good news is that we should be clear by the weekend, so your weekend plans should still be good (and the mountains should have snow).
New Sharrows on Foster/Hedwig
The next time you drive down Foster/Hedwig, you will notice the new "Sharrows" that were painted in on Monday (3/5). See the article below for more details on this bicyclist safety enhancement for Rossmoor.
Road Repairs Continue
There is still road and gutter work being done in Rossmoor in preparation for the slurrying and repaving that will be competed later in the year. The rains have slowed the process some and has caused some potholes to form. If you see new potholes, please call OC Public Works 714.667.8800 to report the location. Be alert for construction equipment and detours, especially during the day.
Dog on Leashes
There has been an increase in issues with dog owners not keeping their pups on their leash while visiting our Rossmoor Parks and walking the streets. Orange County Animal Care is now issuing citations to pet owners who disobey the OC leash laws. Please keep your dogs on their leashes and of course pick up after them so the other people don't step in unpleasant surprises when they walk in and around
the park our our streets. Good neighbors are what make a community a nice place to live. Please do your part...

- Street Sweeping - Monday March 18th, please remove your vehicles and trash cans from the streets of Rossmoor. Thanks!
- RHA Board Meeting - Tuesday 3/19 - 7:00 p.m. Rossmoor Park
- Rossmoor Recycles - Saturday 3/23 - 8:00 a.m. to Noon - Rush Park, please bring your newspapers, mixed paper, cans and plastic bottles. No shredding this month.
And of course, the weekly Rossmoor Walk &Talk which has now expanded to Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. with Tuesday mornings remaining at the 10:30 a.m. start time. We meet near the playground at Rush Park when it's not raining.

For those of you that are not (yet) familiar with the Shared Roadway Bicycle Markings or the Sharrow symbol, they are in use in many states including California and around the world.
Sharrows are used to alert/remind drivers that bicyclists are allowed to occupy this travel lane. Sharrows also help bicyclists to maintain a safe lane position. Cyclists can use all streets in Rossmoor all the time (24/7) to safely ride with traffic. The Sharrows are a graphic reminder to drivers that the bicycles are able to use the traffic lane and to be aware of them.
Share the road and be alert. Slow down, especially around schools and parks.

Because Rossmoor Matters

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association (RHA) is a membership funded, non-profit organization and as such relies primarily on member dues and fund-raising to cover its annual costs.
What costs?
Great question, glad you asked.
The Rossmoor Homeowners Association focuses on Fun, Safety, and Communications: for Our Rossmoor:
- Hosts and/or sponsors numerous community events, including the Rossmoor Community Festival, Fiction Writing Contest, Rossmoor Winter Festival, Christmas Lights Celebration, and Shakespeare in the Park.(fun)
- Coordinates and sponsors the Neighborhood Watch program throughout Rossmoor (safety).
- Hosts frequent Town Hall style meetings (generally at our monthly RHA Board meetings) with invited guest speakers to discuss important topics to Rossmoor residents. Recent topics include the I-405 Improvement Project regarding the noise levels, Measure G, and the CHP on speed enforcement in Rossmoor
(communications).
- Awards Scholarships each year to graduating high school residents (fun).
- Keeps the curb addresses painted and visible for emergency responders and deliveries (safety.)
- Provides disaster preparedness education materials and works in conjunction with the local West County CERT program to provide disaster preparation training (safety).
- Keeps the neighborhood informed and the communication channels open via the Our Rossmoor publication, Our Rossmoor eBlasts,
social media platforms, and the OurRossmoor.com website (communications).
And while the costs for these programs are not huge, they do add up throughout the year. And that's why we ask you to support our volunteer efforts by joining or renewing your membership with the RHA. And at $30 per household, it's a great investment in your neighborhood. As Tax Time Approaches...

Tax time is always a good time of the year to review your records, since you touch on many of them to prepare all those forms.
At our January meeting , Attorney Tracy J. Roberts and Real Estate Broker Scott Underwood reviewed the documents that you should be able to quickly access in case of an emergency or disaster. Their presentation detailed the why behind the information you will want to have on hand and they provided a binder of checklists and prompts to help the attendees collect the information from the privacy of their home.
Since you have many of these documents available when you do your taxes, now might be a good time to review the Emergency Binder Tracy & Scott provided the meeting attendees.

Are You A Licensed HAM Radio Operator?

If you are, then we'd like to know so we can reestablish our emergency amateur radio network here in Rossmoor.
If you are not a licensed operator or used to be one and are interested in becoming licensed, please let us know that as well. We can point you in the right direction and if there's enough interest, possibly schedule a class here in Rossmoor.
The plan is to reestablish the Rossmoor Emergency Amateur Radio Network. If/when a major disaster event occurs, Ham Radios may be the most effective way for us to communicate. If you are interested please let us know here.

Our next monthly Rossmoor Recycles event is on Saturday, March 23rd. Please bring your recyclable newspapers, mixed paper waste, recyclable cans, and plastic bottles to Rush Park.
You'll be helping the environment AND putting some much-needed funds back into the Rossmoor community!
Note: Free paper shredding is available quarterly (Oct, Jan, Apr, and July) and is provided by The File Depot in Huntington Beach.

Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Program welcomes the opportunity to work together with residents through Neighborhood Watch and Nextdoor.
We are always looking to expand our Neighborhood Watch program by adding block captains, registering homes and neighbors, or sharing information.
Presently, more than half of the streets in Rossmoor have block captains - Is your street one of them?
It's easy to participate either in Neighborhood Watch or as a block captain by registering here.
It is also very important for residents to share information about safety and security concerns with OC Sheriff's by calling 714.647.7000. And we ask you to register your home with our Program.
If you see suspicious activity, call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 714.647.7000 and report:
• Who or what you saw
• When you saw it
• Where it occurred
• Why it’s suspicious
As always if there is an emergency, call 9-1-1.

What is Rossmoor’s Neighborhood Watch Program?
Rossmoor’s Neighborhood Watch Program is organized, funded and operated by the Rossmoor Homeowner’s Association (RHA) and has been since its beginning back in the late 1970's.
Rossmoor's Neighborhood Watch Committee distributes weekly crime reports to block captains and these reports are also posted on the RHA website and Nextdoor so residents are regularly notified about area incidents.
Quarterly crime/activity reports are presented by the OC Sheriffs at Rossmoor Community Services District meetings (generally each Feb., May, Aug., and Nov.) and we post these reports here for your convenience.

I-405 Improvement Project |
As most of you know the I-405 enhancement project has begin with the preliminary ground and soil work. The I-405 in both directions from the I-605 to SR 73 interchange will have CalTrans crews working intermittently on the shoulders and neighboring streets. Some lane and complete freeway closures will
take place as well.
The OCTA has also released a projected schedule for the bridge work along the 16 mile project path. You can see that here. Note that none of the projected work will directly impact Rossmoor or Seal
Beach Blvd. However, if you plan to drive between here and SR 73 in Costa Mesa, especially in the late night and early morning hours, you may want to check for closures on the OCTA website.
We will provide updates here as they become available.
Once the project is completed in about 2023, there will be one additional traffic lane in each direction. The current HOV lane and an additional lane will be Toll Lanes for vehicles with less than 3 riders.

All meet at Rush Park - That is unless it's raining, then there's no walk.
The idea is simple enough, whoever attends forms groups of 2-4 people and walk around Rush Park 1, 2, or 3 times, and they talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. There never seems to be a shortage of talking topics so join in the fun while you pump some blood around your body.
It's a real Win-Win
This great idea creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. It could save or at least extend your life, plus you'll get to meet some really great people. And that is a huge win-win.
The more the merrier - Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk.

Block members contribute by expanding the coverage of the Neighborhood Watch network.
The more residents who participate in the program and are observant about their surroundings and neighborhood, the safer our community is.
All you need to do is complete the block member form and you will be added to the Neighborhood Watch network. There is no cost or obligation to you, but the benefits to you and your block could be life changing or saving.

Coyote sightings in Rossmoor have decreased to almost zero over the past couple of months. The coyote gates are down and that is a big help. Other easier food sources seem to be available to the local coyotes as well. Unfortunately, reduced
sightings/reports does not indicate the coyotes are not in Rossmoor. They are still here.
For those of you who have made reports, THANK YOU. You are helping us track coyote behavior which is critical to any future removal attempts.
Please continue to be careful with your pets (keep them indoors or within your sight, and DO NOT leave pet food outside after feeding time).
Our Rossmoor Wildlife Watch program continues to collect reports and monitors coyote behavior and movement based on these reports. Please continue to report any coyote activity you see on the Rossmoor
Wildlife Watch website.
