We have been having some beautiful weather lately. It's a little cool out in the mornings and still nice days. Expect the cool to cold temperatures to continue for the rest of the month. It is winter afterall.

Membership Drive

Our membership drive continues and we truely appreciate those of you who have already renewed your dues online and via the mail. Thank you so much! If you have not yet renewed your membership, please do so here on the Our Rossmoor site.

Los Alamitos State of The City Invite

The City of Los Alamitos would like to extend an invitation to all Rossmoor residents to attend their State of the City breakfast event on Wednesday March 4th. You can get more details about tickets and event sponsorship on the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce website (https://losalchamber.org/).

So, What has the RHA Done For Us Lately (Part 3)?

We hear this question quite a bit, and we thought it would be good to highlight some of the RHA benefits succinctly, in black and white for all to read. With the full article is on our site, we will just touch on one of the areas the RHA has focused on: Local Business.

We are also proud to promote and support local businesses. We wholeheartedly believe that a strong community starts with staying local and knowing our neighbors. We do this with our in-depth business features every quarter and hope you’ve been able to meet a few new neighbors this past year. We also put our money where our mouth is and use a Rossmoor resident to print this quarterly publication — thanks, Bob, for all you do.

Our Rossmoor High School Scholarships

The 2020 Our Rossmoor High School Scholarship program is now accepting applications for the two $2,000 awards. Each year the RHA sponsors this program to recognize graduating high school students and help them realize their college dreams. See the article below for details.

RHA Board Meeting - Tuesday 2/18 - 7:00 p.m. Rossmoor Park

And of course, the Rossmoor Walk &Talk program that meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday and Saturday mornings starting at 10:00 a.m. All ages and abilities are welcome to join us. We meet near the playground at Rush Park when it's not raining.

The Rossmoor Homeowners Association is searching our community for a new membership committee chairman, who would also serve on our board.

RHA, which represents about 1,200 households in our community, is growing and expanding its mission, creating a need for new skills on our board.

Our longstanding and very talented membership chairman will be leaving our board this year and we need to replace him as soon as possible. The position is one of the most important in our organization, involving maintaining records of existing members, recruiting new members and annually running our membership drive.

At the same time, RHA is transitioning to an email-based membership system in an effort to reduce our reliance on mailed membership forms and payments, which are expensive and time consuming. We need a person who has skills in information technology, spreadsheets and marketing. The new membership chairman will be joining others on the board who have IT, accounting, marketing, real estate and business management expertise to help you.

RHA continues to do loads of good for our community, sponsoring festivals, granting scholarships, painting addresses on curbs and much else, but all of that would be impossible without the mechanics of our membership system. Our Rossmoor Scholarships

Our annual Our Rossmoor Scholarship Awards program for 2020 high school graduates who reside in Rossmoor with a current member of the RHA.

This year there will be TWO $2,000 scholarships awarded. The awards will be given to the best entries as determined by our judging panel, submitted by the March 10th deadline. Scholarship applications are only accepted by online submission via our website.

Our panel of judges will rank the entries based on the following:

60% for the essay (20% each for quality of the idea, effectiveness of argument, and technical proficiency)
15% for On Campus Activities/Sports/Club
15% Off Campus Community Service
10% for GPA
