Once again we want to wish you a very happy New Year and a prosperous 2021.
As usual, with a new year comes new laws and regulations. 2021 is no different. From increased distracted driver penalties and fines (don't hold your phone) to requiring more diversified corporate boards, there are dozens of new 2021 laws here in California.
One 2021 change that might have a direct impact on us as Rossmoor residents is the new increased sales tax provision for Los Alamitos. Yes, Measure Y passed by just 114 votes. And yes, it allows the city to increase its sales tax by 1.50% to 9.25% which ties Santa Ana for the highest rate in the County. It also may incorrectly cost you on your online retailer (think Amazon)
purchases.
The new sales tax needs to be applied base on the shipping address not just the Zip Code to not charge you the extra 1.50% in sales tax. We've posted some additional notes and what actions you can take if you discover your have been over taxed on your purchases here on our site.
