Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

This weekend, take some time to honor those men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

Did you know that each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time?

Music Program - Sign-Ups

The You Center has opened registration for their fall music programs. These programs sell out fairly quickly, so if you have a child interested in music or you'd like to give them an opportunity to find out, now is a good time to get the details and sign up for the classes that start in September.

Rossmoor Graduation Celebration Parade - 6/9

Registration is open for our 2nd Annual Rossmoor Graduation Celebration Parade. All Rossmoor seniors regardless of school along with all Los Al seniors are invited to sign up to join in the celebration parade.

All vehicles must register to participate in the parade. Registration is free.

The parade will take place on Wednesday June 9th and will hit the streets of Rossmoor right around 12:30 and currently plans to follow the same route as last year. More details on this community wide celebration will be coming once the permits are in place.

Rossmoor Rocks - Kirsten Okamoto

Kirsten Okamoto is a special young woman. The Youth Center recently awarded her one of its 2021 Stellar Volunteer Awards and she is the first-ever recipient of the $500 S.E.T.H. Scholarship presented by Lion’s Club of Seal Beach.

Kirsten’s volunteer activities with the Youth Center are just a small part of what makes Kirsten such a leader.

RCSD Family Foodie Festivals @ Rush Park

The Rossmoor Community Services District is hosting Family Foodie Festivals at Rush Park this Summer. These free Saturday events run from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will feature live music, top OC Food Trucks, Creative Craft vendors and a Kids Carnival.

Here are the dates and scheduled bands:

June 19 - Stone Soul Band
July 17 - King Salmon Band
August 14 - The Emperors
September 11 - Gregg Young Band

Our Rossmoor Fiction Writing Contest

The annual Our Rossmoor Fiction Writing Contest is hosted by the RHA each year and is a fun and entertaining community contest that residents look forward to.

It’s a super simple contest: Rossmoor residents submit their creative stories in hopes of winning a share in the $450 in prizes, gaining recognition from Our Rossmoor for their efforts, and having their story published here on our site. There is no cost or fee to enter, you just have to be a current RHA member to win (not a member? Join Today!).

A Day At The Beach

A day at the beach can be fun. However, swimming in the water can be dangerous if you don’t know how to keep yourself from drowning. Learn how to reduce the risks of drowning by following these beach safety tips from the OCFA!

Beach Safety Tips

Ask the lifeguard about rip currents and other hazards. If in doubt, don’t go out.
Obey the posted warning signs and flags.
Check the weather, water, and surfing conditions.
If someone is in trouble, get help from a lifeguard or call 9-1-1.
