Huge Water Shortage - Already
While we normally don't broadcast the "news" to our readers, the drought is something we should pay attention to. With 88% of the American West currently experiencing a drought, and the US’ largest reservoir, Lake Mead, is at its lowest level since it was filled in the 1930s. With a record-breaking heat wave sizzling its way across the West this week, officials will almost certainly declare the first-ever water shortage for the Colorado River, which feeds Lake Mead.
Why do we care? Good question, especially since most of our water here in northwest Orange County comes from local aquifers. At some point though, all of us will pay the price for the lack of water the southwest is facing. If you have not yet converted to drip irrigation for your plants or converted to a more drought tolerant landscape, might you consider it? It's good stewardship of our resources. Just something to
consider.
