It used to be that Labor Day was the unofficial end of summer. In those days, school didn't start until the week after the long weekend and a good number of families ended their summer vacation on Labor Day.

Today, with school starting in mid-August and travel in general being strange (Covid, National Parks in CA closed due to the fires, etc.), it looks like many are staying home. And, this weekend looks like it will be very warm and nice weather-wise and it will be great for smoking and grilling. Isn't it nice to have a great "stay at home" option? Thank you Rossmoor.

No Street Sweeping on Monday

With Monday being Labor Day, there will be no street sweeping. Sweeping will be "made up" on Monday September 13th and the sweepers will be back the following Monday (9/20) as well. It happens like this every Labor Day, just wanted to remind you.

Little Free Library Project

Recently, Rossmoor resident and Girl Scout Kayla Teng created this very cool website for her Bronze Award.

Kayla has brilliantly explained how the “Little Free Library” project got started, how you can become a steward yourself, and mapped out the location of each Rossmoor library. Her website is better than many business websites I’ve seen.

After School Programs

Now that school has started and things are getting into their school year rhythm, it may be time to think about an after school program for your household.

Enter The Youth Center's Rascals After School Program. It's an alternative to kids going home to an empty house and idle activities. The program provide s homework help and fun activities after school.

This year there are four Locations:

Oak Rascals (Grades 2-8) 10909 Oak St, Los Alamitos (Next door to Oak Middle School). Tuition: $6/day. Pick your days. Billed weekly.
Rush Rascals (Grades 1-5) 3021 Blume Dr, Rossmoor (Pick up from Hopkinson Elementary). Tuition: $9/day. Pick your days. Billed weekly.
Rossmoor Rascals (Grades 1-5) 3232 Hedwig Rd, Rossmoor (Pick up from Rossmoor & Lee). Tuition: $9/day. Pick your days. Billed weekly.
Plaza Rascals (Grades 1-5) 10961 Reagan St. Los Alamitos (Pick up from Los Alamitos Elementary). Tuition: $9/day. Pick your days. Billed weekly.

The RASCALS program runs from August 16 – June 10, Monday – Friday 2:00 – 6:30 pm (open earlier on Minimum Days and Wednesdays based on LAUSD schedule)

Moving Is A Pain...

While at some stages in life moving may be exciting, it's almost always a pain to actually do. Going through all your stuff. Packing and boxing your items. Loading up your vehicle(s).

And once you get to your destination, you get to unpack and put everything away.

What fun!!???

While we can't take away all the pain, we do have a list of quick tips that may make your move (or maybe you're lucky and it's a friend or family member who is moving) a little bit easier. Enjoy!
