What a neat evening: Rain. Thunder. Lighting. All fairly rare these days here in Rossmoor. The rest of the week is going to be beautiful weather wise at least. A perfect time for a morning walk...

Walk To School Day - Wednesday October 6th

All four Rossmoor Elementary Schools will be taking part in #WalkToSchoolDay this Wednesday, October 6th. The students, parents and family members will be gathering at either Rush Park (Weaver & Hopkinson Schools) or Rossmoor Park (Lee and Rossmoor Schools) about 7:30 a.m. and will proceed to walk to their perspective schools.

While schools may still be a little different this year, building healthy (and fun!) habits is a big win for everyone. Connected and active kids learn better. Keep up the movement and activity all year round! Join us as we celebrate Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 6th and kick-start healthy habits for better health. Supervisor Foley Contributes $10K

Our Second District Supervisor Katrina Foley was able to contribute $10,000 to Rossmoor from the Covid Relief funds for the Arts through the RCSD. These funds were used to benefit the community by putting on the October Foodie Festival and will be used to help cover the costs of this year's Winder Festival scheduled for Saturday December 11th.

A huge THANK YOU to Supervisor Foley for not overlooking Rossmoor when it came to supporting the communities she represents.

RCSD Schedules Special Board Meetings

The Rossmoor Community Services District (RCSD) has scheduled two special educational forums that according to the RCSD website:

will provide historical information regarding Rossmoor’s pursuit of local control. The forum will also include an overview of various services that would apply to local control, such as: Animal control, Waste Services, Law Enforcement, and Fire Authority Services. The forum will include a presentation by expert panelists, current and former RCSD board members, and input from the community. The discussion will surround the pros and cons of securing local control and the legislative process.

Given the potential significant and long-term effects of the RCSD gaining local control/latent powers, we encourage you to attend these meetings, join us in discovering more about the RCSD’s plans, and ask any questions that you may have regarding the potential impacts.

The planned Special Board meetings will both take place at Rush Park in the auditorium and scheduled for:

Thursday October 7^th at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday October 16^th at 3:00 p.m.

The RCSD Board will also have Local Control/Latent Powers on their regular board meeting agenda in November (11/9) and or December (12/14).

605-Katella Preliminary Work Begins - Closures

That's right, the preliminary work for the 605-Katella Interchange project will get started as soon as this Sunday (10/3) evening with some soil testing. This testing will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and can include closure of the north and south bound on/off ramps to the 605 at Katella. This work should last for about the next three weeks

Additionally, crews will be determining the location of underground utilities beginning Tuesday 10/5. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. between Epson Way and the Coyote Creek Bikeway. Closures of the outside lanes of Katella both east and west bound are expected. This work should last for about a week. See the OCTA flyer below.

The Youth Center serves hundreds of kids in our local area, with more than 40% of them from right here in Rossmoor.

With COVID and the business/economic slowdown, many local area parents are going to be unable to give the gifts they would like to give their kids this holiday season. And this is where The Youth Center steps in to provide gifts and gift cards to the people who can use a helping hand for the holidays.

Give a Gift

Give a gift of "spare change" or something more substantial by scanning the code to the right (yep, it works on the screen, or you can tap it if you're reading this on your phone). The Youth Center will buy the gift cards for you. What could be easier?

Every donation helps local families. Everything given goes directly to The Youth Center's holiday help programs. And, your donation could be tax-deductible (check with your accountant first).

Little Free Library Project

Recently, Rossmoor resident and Girl Scout Kayla Teng created this very cool website for her Bronze Award.

Kayla has brilliantly explained how the “Little Free Library” project got started, how you can become a steward yourself, and mapped out the location of each Rossmoor library. Her website is better than many business websites I’ve seen.
