It looks like the weekend will be much warmer with high's in the mid-80's. Not bad at all. Nice and warm.

The warm weather will be a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy our beautiful parks and tree lined streets, join us at Rush Park for the last Family Foodie Festival of the season (2:00-8:00, live music & fun) or take in the Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach this weekend.

Preparedness In Hindsight - A Family Perspective

As we close out Preparedness Month, one last mention of the "Get a Kit" resource the County of Orange has on their ReadyOC.org website. While you may be "ready" for a disaster to strike your household, are your family members ready too? Have you discussed things as a family? Does your family know where your "kit" is?

If you don't have a kit, it's worth a look. If you do have a kit, it's worth seeing if you're missing anything important. While wildfires are not our number one concern here in Rossmoor, having a kit ready when the next disaster in your life strikes, is a good thing. At least in hindsight it will be. :-)

The Pacific Airshow Returns to HB

The Pacific Airshow returns to Huntington Beach this weekend -10/1-10/3. You can expect intermittent jet noise coming from the Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in Los Alamitos between now and Sunday 10/3 as aircraft are staging there. If you have airshow concerns, please call 714-536-5985. Enjoy the show!

RCSD Schedules Special Board Meetings

Congrats to Lee & Los Alamitos Elementary

The Rossmoor Community Services District (RCSD) has scheduled two Special Board meetings to review the history of the RCSD’s pursuit of local control/latent powers and review the various services that would apply to local control.

The final format and content of these meetings has not yet been released by the RCSD.

Given the potential significant and long-term effects of the RCSD gaining local control/latent powers, we encourage you to attend these meetings, join us in discovering more about the RCSD’s plans, and ask any questions that you may have regarding the potential impacts.

The planned Special Board meetings will both take place at the Rush Park Auditorium and scheduled for:

Thursday October 7^th at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday October 16^th at 3:00 p.m.

The RCSD Board will also have Local Control/Latent Powers on their regular board meeting agenda in November (11/9) and or December (12/14).

Congrats to Lee & Los Alamitos Elementary

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education named the recipients of 2021’s National Blue Ribbon School Awards.,

There were 325 elementary schools recognized nationally this year and 28 of them were in California. Two of those 28 are in our two Los Alamitos Unified School District! Both Richard Henry Lee and Los Alamitos Elementary Schools received the prestigious honor and recognition.

This Saturday (10/2) Rossmoor Family Foodie Festival

The RCSD has added an additional Family Foodie Festival on Saturday October 2nd at Rush Park. Like the previous Foodie events, the fun kicks off at about 2:00 p.m. with live music, creative crafts, and a carnival area. The music and fun continue until 8:00 p.m. with very popular Knyght Ryder performing from 6 to 8.

Come out and enjoy the fun and community. We hope to see you there and feel free to stop by our booth grab a candy or two and say HI!

The Youth Center serves hundreds of kids in our local area, with more than 40% of them from right here in Rossmoor.

With COVID and the business/economic slowdown, many local area parents are going to be unable to give the gifts they would like to give their kids this holiday season. And this is where The Youth Center steps in to provide gifts and gift cards to the people who can use a helping hand for the holidays.

Give a Gift

Give a gift of "spare change" or something more substantial by scanning the code to the right (yep, it works on the screen, or you can tap it if you're reading this on your phone). The Youth Center will buy the gift cards for you. What could be easier?

Every donation helps local families. Everything given goes directly to The Youth Center's holiday help programs. And, your donation could be tax-deductible (check with your accountant first).

Little Free Library Project

Recently, Rossmoor resident and Girl Scout Kayla Teng created this very cool website for her Bronze Award.

Kayla has brilliantly explained how the “Little Free Library” project got started, how you can become a steward yourself, and mapped out the location of each Rossmoor library. Her website is better than many business websites I’ve seen.
